I had the same thing happen on a 91 Olds 88. Replaced crank shaft position sensor, coil, and ignition module. That solved the problem. I think the culprit was the CSP Sensor, but changed all three so can't say for sure.

The problem seems like a faulty ignition module under the coil pack. The reason it quits when hot and starts after it cools is related to the coils getting the module to hot. The coil pack will misfire as not all coils need to fire to run.

1995 oldsmobile 88 royale. shuts off while driving and has trouble staying running. when it is running it runs great.

This happened to my 95 Royale while driving around town. I checked the battery terminals and one was slightly loose. After tightening it, no more dying.

Rough running engine. will not start after engine is warm, but starts after engine cools down.

try changing fuel filter as it may be clogged. the time you are waiting may allow deposits to settle back in line.

2003 Ford Taurus will periodically die while driving ! All warning lights will come on and engine will die. It will start again immediately after I put it in 'Park' and I can resume driving

This sounds like a bad connection, the problem is where, i have seen the wiring harness that goes over the transmission rub into wiring and cause engine to shut down and then restart again and run until the right movement is made to shut down again.

Try starting the car and do the wiggle test, start grabing wiring and moving around and see if engine dies out.

It cannot be the VATS system. The TDM, that is the core of the VATS system, is engaged only at the time you start your car. I have a problem exactly like yours on my 95 LeSabre and just discovered it is the alternator that sometimes charges and sometimes doesn't and when it doesn't, the battery's voltage goes lower than a certain threshold and the computer (PCM) is unable to work anymore and shuts down the engine. Took me months to discover this!
