96 vanden plas

Engine has a miss and a high idle (idles at 2000-3500 rpms) compression in a 6 cylinders is 180lbs, no visible vaccume leaks,

    plugs replaced when compression tested, removed air flow and cleaned good, idle motor working, problem still exist, thanks for ideas.

Check your idle control sensor, also have you checked your timing, and your plugs. I had a car that had a small miss. I spent lots of money replacing and tracking just to find a plug that wasn't gapped correctly. Also no visible leaks does not mean no leaks. a pin whole could cause this. Check your mass air flow, and clean it while your doing this. Also check your throtle body sensor. Pull the throtle body its usually 4 bolts. Clean it out real good and put it back on.

    does your truck have a idle air intake sensor. If it gets frozen in one position it will stay there. It usually gets frozen on low, but I have sean them get frozen in high.

    Did you pull the throtle body, if the flap is stuck then it will not work properly.

    what plugs are you using, are you using a gapped plug or a plug that you do not need to gap?

    I still think you have some sensor going out. I would get it to one of the auto part stores and try there free diagnostic check. The only other thing is your coil. If your coil is going bad, but It really doesnt sound like that.

Have you checked for a broken valve spring. Repaired a dodge engine with the same running issue as you have described and it was a broken intake valve spring.

Ok so here's the symptoms on a cold start it idles

Check for vacuum leaks. On a vehicle without a mas air flow sensor a vacuum leak will raise the idle.

check to see if there is a specific cylinder causing the misfire. Remove spark plug wires one at a time or unplug injectors one at a time. If the engine rpm changes that cylinder is working. If there're is no change than that cylinder is not working.

If there is a specific cylinder that is not working than you can check for spark, compression, and fuel on that cylinder.

My neon started idling at 4000+ rpms and wont idle down. car is undrivable because engine revs to high to stop with brakes.

check for major vaccum leaks and it none found then you may have a bad idle air control valve, that controls the idle start there, good luck.
