On some models you loosen the mounting bolt, then turn the adjusting bolt in the opposite direction.

you could always jam the flywheel with a bolt inserted between the ring gear and the transmission housing, be sure to tie the bolt to something outside the engine so when it falls in the housing you can retrieve it back without ease. or you can always bring it to me. my email [email protected]

SOURCE: procedure to change serpentine belt 2006 toyota tacoma?

On my 2005 Tacoma with the 4.0L V6, I found it easier to change the belt from under the truck. Just remove the skid pan. Plenty of room to install the belt. The tensioner pulley is the one at about 2-o'clock from the crankshaft with the belt nearly all the way around it.

It is probably the tensioner pulley that's gone bad. It can be replaced separately, if you can purchase the pulley separately. As to how to go about changing it in such a small space, it's definitely possible, with the right type of tools. That's why mechanics have so many different shapes and lengths of the same size tools.

SOURCE: how do you get a

The tension pullies are usually spring loaded so if you need to have the belt replaced there should be a nut on the pulley that you have to put a socket and a long bar on to relieve the tension while you remove the belt.
Hope this helps

How to replace the power steering belt on a 4g13

ADJUSTMENT

Excessive belt tension will cause damage to the alternator and water pump pulley bearings, while, on the other hand, loose belt tension will produce slip and premature wear on the belt. Therefore, be sure to adjust the belt tension to the proper level.
To adjust the tension on a drive belt, loosen the adjusting bolt or fixing bolt locknut on the alternator, alternator bracket or tension pulley. Then move the alternator or turn the adjusting bolt to adjust belt tension. Once the desired value is reached, secure the bolt or locknut and recheck tension.

How to change the power steering belt on a 2004 mitsubishi galant

The power steering belt is on the front of the motor and is driven by the crankshaft. Below the steering pump is an adjuster bolt. It moves a pulley underneath the pump. To adjust the belt tension located the nut that tightens the adjuster pulley the the pump bracket . It is on the right side of the bracket , the pulley is on the left facing the back of the car. Loosen the pulley mount nut . You can now turn the adjuster bolt to move the pulley to tighten and loosen the belt for replacement. I recommend replacing the alternator belt at the same time. To do this , Unhook the negative battery cable, loosen the bolt holding block to the slide arm, reach under the alternator and loosen the lower mount bolt, not you can adjust the position of the alternator using the adjuster bolt.

Loosen power steering pump and pulley and can't get the pump to shift enough to get the belt off and new one on. should be a simple thing

toyota usually have two bolts on their accessory belt tensioners, one is for adjustment and on is to lock it down. make sure you losen the lock down bolt first then unscew the long adjusting bolt all the way.
if it is a four cylinder look at the idler pulley to the left of the power steering pump assembly, the tensioner is a part of that pulley not the power steering pump bracket. i hope this helps

  1. NOTE: If the drive belt requires servicing, refer to Section 03-05 .

Remove the drive belt from the power steering pump pulley.
  1. Remove the oil dipstick tube.
  1. Remove the power steering pump support (3C511).
  1. Install Steering Pump Pulley Remover T69L-10300-B on the pulley.
  1. NOTE: Do not apply pressure on the power steering pump rotor shaft (3B559). Pressure will damage internal thrust areas of the power steering pump (3A674).

While holding the remover tool nut stationary with a wrench, rotate the inner spindle of the remover tool clockwise until the pulley is pulled off the power steering pump rotor shaft.
  1. Remove the bolts attaching the power steering pump to the A/C compressor mounting bracket (2882).
Installation
  1. Install the power steering pump on the A/C compressor mounting bracket. Install and tighten attaching bolts to 41-61 Nm (30-45 lb-ft). On 4.0L engine, tighten to 47-64 Nm (35-47 lb-ft).
  1. Position the support on the A/C compressor mounting bracket. Install mounting bolts and tighten to 47-64 Nm (35-47 lb-ft).
  1. NOTE: Fore/aft location of power steering pump pulley on power steering pump rotor shaft is critical. Incorrect belt alignment may cause drive belt squeal or chirp. Make sure pull-off groove on power steering pump pulley is facing front and flush with end of shaft ± 0.254mm (± 0.010 inch).

Install the Steering Pump Pulley Replacer T65P-3A733-C and install the power steering pump pulley.
  1. Install the drive belt on the power steering pump pulley.
  1. On the 2.3L I-4, Ranger 3.0L V-6, and 4.0L V-6 engines, position and rotate drive belt on engine. While lifting drive belt tensioner in a counterclockwise direction (clockwise on Ranger 3.0L V-6), slide drive belt under drive belt tensioner and lower drive belt tensioner to drive belt.
On Aerostar 3.0L V-6 engine, position the belt idler pulley (8678) assembly to give the drive belt the tension specified. Refer to belt tension check in Section 03-05 . Tighten the drive belt tensioner and adjustment bolts to 47-64 Nm (35-47 lb-ft).
  1. Install the power steering pump support, if removed.
  1. Install the oil dipstick tube.
  1. Install the pressure hose tube nut and new Teflon® wagner into power steering pump valve outlet fitting (3D654) and tighten to 41-54 Nm (30-40 lb-ft).
  1. Connect the power steering return hose to the power steering pump, and reposition the clamp.
  1. Fill the power steering oil reservoir (3A697) with Premium Power Steering Fluid E6AZ-19582-AA or equivalent fluid meeting specification ESW-M2C33-F. Start the engine and turn the steering wheel (3600) from left to right without hitting stops to remove air from the system.

You have several pulleys in the drive system, you have already noticed that one is altenator, power steering. There is one for the water pump and there should be at least two more, one on an arm called the tensioner pulley bolted with one bolt through the middle, the other is mounted with one bolt through the middle called the idler pulley, one swings and the other does not. Should come off by removing the center bolt. Remember the belt routing, so you can install the new belt. Hope this helps, let me know.

YOU HAVE WHATS CALLED A TENSIONER PULLEY IN FRONT OF ENGINE , ONE OF TWO PULLEYS THAT ARE SLICK (NO GROOVES). THE TENSIONER PULLEY IS WHAT YOUR AFTER. IT WILL BE ATTACHED TO A SLOTTED BRACKET WITH A BOLT HEAD DIRECTLY BEHIND IT.(LOOKING AT ENGINE FROM FRONT OF VEHICLE ITS USUALLY ON YOUR FAR RIGHT!) FIRST UNLOOSEN BOLT ON FRONT OF PULLEY ABOUT FIVE TURNS , THEN MOVE TO BOLT ON TOP BEHIND PULLEY , AND START UNLOOSENING IT TILL PROPER TENSION IS RELEASED TO SLIDE BELT OVER ALL PULLEYS(USE BELT DIAGRAM UNDER HOOD FOR PROPER INSTALLATION. ONCE BELT IS ON REVERSE STEPS 1 AND 2. TIGHTEN TOP BOLT BEHIND TENSION PULLEY TILL BELT HAS ABOUT A QUARTER INCH PLAY IN IT UP AND DOWN (DON'T OVER TIGHTEN).THEN TIGHTEN FRONT PULLEY BOLT TILL VERY SNUG.YOUR DONE!
