Hi, I have a 2001 GMC sierra 1500 4x4 5.3liter engine. I filled up the tank, and topped it off. Gas started to pour out of top of tank. Not where the gas cap goes. On other cars, I would top off, and no pouring out of the gas tank, but from gas cap. Could the gas tank be cracked? Then I drive home, park it for 2 hours. Tried to start it and nothing. Lights go on, gauges work, power everything works. But doesn't crank on. Each time I try to turn it on, I could hear the fuel pump working. Could it be my starter? I hear the starter motor running but not the cillinoide. And each time I turn the key, it blows out my crank fuse. What's going on with my lil monster?

SOURCE: 93 gmc sierra 5.7 liter engine, injection carb,

you say you replaced the fuse, but does the fuse have power? the gray wire at pump should have power when cranking, or for 2 seconds when turning key on. At fuel pump relay, put power onto gray wire, the pump should run if the wiring is good. if it doenst run then ck for power at fuse while power is on gray wire.

SOURCE: 2000 1500 Sierra will not stay running step on gas...

Replace the fuel pump and fuel filter to correct the problem you are having. Without the proper fuel pressure the engine will not run at all. Hope this will help you. You might check the fuse/relay panel for a blown fuse or relay in it to make sure you are getting power to fuel pump before you go to the trouble of removing the pump and fuel filter. Hope this will help you.

SOURCE: Hi there. so the problem

The gas pump and gas gauge are two different things and working independently.
Gas pump will pump the fuel by trough hose line to carburator and also there should be another hose return from carburator to tank. So it is very easy to check whether your pump work or not. detach your your fuel hose then turn your ignition key to ON ( no need to crank). See how your pump work through detached hose.
Gas gauge triggered by floating sensor in your tank. In many case by the time the sensor is going idiot that tell your gauge the wrong thing.
So need to change your gas sensor in your tank.

Is the Evaporative Emission System Pressure Sensor inside the gas tank or on top of the gas tank

Generally it is located on the top of the fuel pump module external of the tank. On your model it should be the black box on top like the one in this picture.https://contentinfo.autozone.com/znetcs/additional-prod-images/en/US/dlp/EFG1519/6/image/4/

Doesn't want to start after putting gas in at gas pumps what is causing this?

When the pump kicks off do stop there or do you top it off . Do you get a check engine light ? Some older vehicles if you top off the tank , you over fill the Charcoal Canister with raw fuel An you flood out the engine

Is there a fuel/water separator on a 2014 gmc sierra 1500? MIL comes on for a bit then off. code p2269 stored.

Fuel injected gasoline engines have fuel pump in gas tank. Pump is supposed to "emulsify" (fancy word for "mix") fuel and water to help prevent a localized build up of water at bottom of tank. But ...water and gas don't mix and if you have too much water (caused from condensation ...especially in the winter ...and consistently keeping your fuel at low levels) things don't work so well. Dry Gas ...ancient stuff from carburetor days and frozen fuel lines ....get some, a couple or three bottles at least, and pour into your gas tank then fill up. Dry Gas is essentially (methyl?) alcohol that will break up the water and allow it to better mix with the gas.

My gas tank leaks when I fill it up on 97 gmc sierra

Have you not looked to find where it is leaking,do that

I would suspect that the filler tube has rusted

You could remove it & solder or silver braze a small
hole, if necessary

It is possible that it leaks on top of the tank at the fuel
pump gasket, in which case you know what has to be done

My 2001 GMC Sierra just made a 600 mile trip. The next morning, the truck wouldn't start (full tank of gas). Replaced the fuel filter, banged on the gas tank. Tried to start the engine again, engine...

When your replaced the pump did you replace the fuel filter? You may have a fuel pump relay causing you some grief. I believe it is located in the engine compartment in the fuse center on the left inner fender. Check the relay and any related fuses. Check the electrical connection at the pump. They had problems with some of them and they would get kind of hot and distort and corrode. They have new updated ones that can be easily installed.

Try filling up a little less. To me it sounds like a vapor lock issue which clears after you burn off the top bit of gas.. Next time you need fuel up be sure to keep track of how much you put in. Another idea is to run the tank down and then only fill up to half a tank. If the problem clears then you know that you're having a vapor issue probably due to gas saturation of the canister (which can happen if you overfill the tank).

I have a 2001 GMC Jimmy that all of sudden won't allow me fill gas with a gas pump, but I can pour the gas in with a gas can.

There is a pressure regulating hose that is attached to the top of the filler tube, if this hose has collapsed or is blocked the pressure in the tank builds up and you get a back splash when filling. Check this hose. You may have to take the filler tube and hose loose in order to get to it. If it's not collapsed or blocked but looks old and dry rotted, replace it.

Fuel filter location Sierra

I have been told by a mechanic that the fuel filter is inside the fuel tank. Have to either drop the tank or remove the pickup bed. Access is on the top of the tank. This is poor engineering.
