1998 Jetta GL horn won't stop. How to temporarily disconnect?

  • Anonymous Jan 29, 2013

Thanks Bill. Where is the horn on a 1998? Unfortunately our Owners Manual was lost long ago. I'm pretty sure the problem is in the steering wheel contact points as you suggested. This happened before a few years back. Good times driving around the mall on Christmas Eve with the horn randomly blowing. Sure did wonders for my fellow drivers' stress levels.

Pull the wire connected to the horn itself or pull horn fuse. check for the problem in the steering wheel contact points as it may be stuck on

I have no idea where it is but it will be at the front of the vehicle behind the grill or in a relative open position. IT will either be around flat thing or shaped like a rams horn. Let it blow and trace to the noise source

It could just be out of adjustment. I recommend going to a dealership for the part. The VIN number should identify your car specs exactly to avoid getting the wrong part

SOURCE: changing clutch 1998 Jetta GL, remove part or all of transmission?

I'm pretty sure the clutch *has* to be against the flywheel, otherwise if it was directly connected the input and lay shaft would constantly spin even if the wheels were disconnected, which isn't the point of the clutch. Probably the arm for the clutch is just further along the hydraulic line at the back, rather than having it up the front. Open it the way you usually would as I can't see it working any other way.

My horn sounds off and won't stop 'til I disconnect battery cable. Why?

sounds like there's a short in your wiring in the steering column, A lot of times with a tilt wheel a wire get loose or gets a short in it. the steering wheel may have to come off to fix the problem but make sure to disconnect the airbag first, I'm not sure what vehicle you have so I don't know where to tell you to look for the connection, may be best to take to a dealership if possible. Hope this helps.

Horn starts and won't stop - why

You probably have a stuck horn relay or a wire is shorted and constanly providing voltage to it.

I have a vw 93 jetta how can I keep the horn from going off

I wouldn't recommend removing the fuse, Im not sure on that particular year but usually a fuse has multiple functions not just 1 function. I would find the horn location and just un plug it. But Im curious as to why the horn is going off. Is it the alarm? If it is, I would take the car to autozone and have them test the amp output on the alternator and maybe a load test on the battery....
