Ignition sticking 2004 mountaineer

2004 mercury Mountaineer AWD occassionally, my ignition will stick/lock. this has happened a handful of times. i'm afraid to ask but how could i fix this and what will it cost? also i am hearing rubbing/grinding from both driver and passenger wheels. i believe the grinding is related to wheel bearings. what would be the repair costs on this?

Wrong place to ask

This is a chat room

You ask those questions at a repair shop
after a proper & though exam of the truck

The cost can only come from the merchant you chose

You don't know what your going to authorize or be willing
to fix & pay for

SOURCE: 2002 Mountaineer SUV, 4WD, Especially while turning the wheels

I had the same problem with my 2002 Mountaineer at about forty thousand miles. Murcury replaced the steering column free under warranty. I now have ninty two thousand miles and it's back. The rear end is making a whining noise, the tranny is starting to slip, and the rear window regulator went out. Why did we buy a Mercury?????? Disgusted Dave!!!

It does not have a dipstick. To check the fluid trans fluid has to be warm then you take the allen screw out of plug in pan, see 1st pick and you should have a steady drip from the hole. If you have to add fluid you would need the special tool shown in second pick and a tool to pump fluid in.

SOURCE: 1998 Mercury Mountaineer wheel bearing

2x2 = nothing special since they are old fashion tapered bearings

4x4 = nothing special again BUT the wheel bearing is part of the hub assembly!

Do 2005 Mercury Mountaineers have keyless entry remotes?

one way to find out is to sit in your vehicle on the drivers side. lock all the doors, stick the key in the ignition and turn it to the on position without starting it then to the off position 9 timesrepeaditly if on the 8th or 9th time the locks unlock then lock or vice versa then the vehicle did come equipt from the dealer with keyless entry remotes. hope ive been helpful

I need a new transmission in my 2004 Mercury Mountaineer V8 AWD, how much should I expect to spend?

Replacing a transmission can run $1,800-$3,500
I'm thinking closer to $2800 for you because it is a more sophisticated AWD model, perhaps more. Hope that is informative enough for you.

Please rate me, thanks!

Moaning noise coming from rear axle at 65mph+ very loud 2004 Mercury Mountaineer whats the cause?

Sounds to me like the differential. Check and add fluid, the driveline t's off at the rear axle, and there is a nut that your socket wrench should fit into (without a socket). Stick your finger in there and the fluid level should be to hole level.
