The immobiliser wont respond to the key fob. I believe this is an immobilser fault not a problem with the fob as the immobiliser cut in whilst I was driving.
Cheers guys but it's not a key fob, it's a weird torpedo shaped device you press directly onto a small metal disc beneath the immobiliser light. It's an old L reg Saab 9000. Any ideas?

goldie try to lock and unlock the passenger door...there are disarm switches in both doors...the drivers side may have failed but the passenger side may still work...if that dont do it you may need a dealer because the module for the remote keyless entry may have faied

your key fob is now out of sync with the ECU to sync them just follow this link (renault will charge up to £180 for new key and to sync it)
