Unfortunately, the website I found says there is no on-board method of programming your car for a new key-fob. You have to take the car to a dealer or to a key-maker (who may only charge half as much as the dealer)

I have the correct answer for you, but it is probably not what you want to hear. A 2001 Cadillac Deville has NO self-programming procedures for remotes. You can add transponder keys if you have the master key, otherwise you need to go to a professional to get them programmed because they need special equipment to communicate with the vehicle.

I would suggest a locksmith before the dealer as they are usually more affordable. We always recommend an ALOA (Associated Locksmiths of America) member, as their code of ethics means they will treat you fair.

Talking about pulling the air bag,removing the clock spring,
special tools for the lock plate,then it gets easy.

Disconnect the batt. for like 20 min to kill the air bag,remove the bag ,then the wheel,(with the puller you rented),the tool to remove the clip for the lock plate come next( also rented from Auto Zone or such like)
The tumbler is held in with a pin that unscrews ,then the cyl. just slides out.

Hello: It sounds like the tumblers have come loose in the ignition lock cylinder. You will have to replace the lock cylinder and possibly the key. (if the key is badly worn it could have caused the lock cylinder to fail.) Then you will have to program the system. There is NOT a Way to by pass the pass-key 3 system. Or UNLOCK IT........

Hello, You probably have failed (broken) wire(s) coming from the ignition lock cylinder to the security system. To repair you need to replace the ignition lock cylinder, a new key with the same resistor. no programming required. Hope this helps

Possible ignition switch failure will need to replace the ignition lock cylinder and ignition key

Good chance that the tumblers in the ignition cylinder has gone bad and the ignition switch needs to be replaced. Your going to have to call a lock smith that is familiar with the pass lock system for the GM products so you can have your cylinder and ignition keys programed to start the car, as the pass lock system is your anti theft engine immobilizer. 2. Turn the ignition cylinder to ON (RUN) and back to OFF.
3. Remove the existing key and, within fifteen seconds, insert the new key

4. The security light will light up for two seconds to indicate success in programming
the key into the vehicle.

1. Insert new key into ignition cylinder and turn it to the ON (RUN) position.
The security light on the dash will illuminate and stay on for ten minutes.
2. When the security light goes out, you have one minute to start the next

your key cylinder collapsed you will have remove steering colum and change the key cylinder.It's about 5 to six hundred with new key set up
