I was driving my Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera, 4 cyl throttle body injected car, uphill. The car started to lose power, then the check engine light came on. Immediately after that, the car stalled and I couldn't start it again. Obviously the end result for me was to tow it home. I had a full tank of gas (that day), and the car for the year has low miles, only 96,900. please help.
Wow! thats verry low miles for an 88. Check the fuel pressure at the injector. If the pressure is low the filter could be clogged or the pump is not putting out enough pressure. Replace both if the pressure is not up to par. also check the fuel relays.
I had a chevy celebrity that was throttle body also...went to leave a stop sign, light came on and car died and refused to run. We went to the junkyard and got a replacement throttle body for 20 dollars and installed it...it ran perfectly fine after that. Hoping your fix is as easy as ours was.
Oh my husband reminded me of his 1979 cutlass that died a similar way, it sounds really retarded but it did cause the same stall effect (he told me to type this) he had to replace his ignition coil in order to get it to start again after we pushed it to a gas station. i know it sounds silly that an ignition coil would effect anything other than ignition/starting the car but that is what happened.
