When I start my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee, there is a gurgling noise in heater core area and also slight antifreeze odor. All online forums point to a leaking heater core, but the passenger-side carpet is totally dry and also the odor goes away in about 30 seconds. After that, the gurgling remains but no more smell. Ideas?
Make sure the cooling system is clean with fresh coolant when u change the core, otherwise u may damge the new core becuase your coolant is worn out, if your Jeep has over 60,000 it should be done anyway, also I recommend at least a new upper radiator hose while it is drainned and inspect the other parts of the system.
You are at the beginning stages of the heater core going out on you..just because theres no moisture inside doesent necessarily mean the heater core is still ok it just means its going to start leaking on the outside more than likely
The forums you have read are probably right.that's what it sounds like. You are just lucky that is hasn't started to leak really bad so far.

OK, thank you. Sounds like a project for the weekend.
Your heater core is just starting to leak. the gurgling is most often causes by low coolant level, is the system clean and full?
