How to change the automatic transmision fluid and filter on a 1997 honda civic lxi

Believe there is no filter and there is a drain plug
on the transmission pan like the one on the oil pan.
Check with Honda, but believe it's three quarts, and
you should repeat the procedure twice. Get the engine
up to operating temperature, drain the fluid in the pan
pull the little dip stick on top of the transmission and
add the 3 quarts. Drive it around for a few minutes
and repeat. This flushes out some of the fluid in
the torque converter. If you are going to keep the
car, pick up a Haynes repair manual. This procedure
is for a 98 so double check, should be the same.

you can use partsmaster 10w 30 and it takes about 5 quarts and make sure you get the oil filter also.

could be rear seal ..... you probably loose about 1/4 quart every 2 to 3 days.
