if it shifts ino 4x4 lo and back to 2hi, that would mean the motor still works right? do you think it could be the switch or control module? or is th electric transfer case motor control the selection?

Hi how are you doing? just had same problem with by gmc i replaced the transfurcase motor and it works fine. the electric motor moves the shifter in your transfurcase from 4hi to 4lo and 2hi.there is only 3 things that operate your 4x4 the switch the motor and the control modgual.

hi the motor moves into two positions the signal from the switch tells wich position for the motor to move.it is only moving into one position.

Why won't truck shift into 4wd, hi or lo?

Some vehicles have a actuator in the transfer case that the lever pushes against to engage 4x4.

How to use the 4x4

well, if you are sitting still it is recommended you put vehicle in neutral and select 4x4 indicator to desired posistion..... 4 high...4 low...or 2high (auto) when you select 4 low the top speed is not to exceed 25 mph. It is a very low gear for crawling or pulling. At any time you need 4 low gear you must stop trk, shift to neutral and select 4 low. The same procedure is done to change from 4 low to 4 hi or 2 hi. if not done this way internal trans, transfer case or driveline failure will occure. At any time you may shift 4x4 selector from (auto) or 2 hi to 4 hi, and 4 hi to 2 hi or( auto).****** But note, do not make shifts while tires are spinning or under power (acceleration)******* While driving you can make shifts at any speed between 2 hi (auto) and 4 hi and back to 2 hi. release throttle a little and select. you do not have to take foot off throttle all the way! just enough that truck is not under a power, load acceleration. If tires are spinning or you are on the gas and you select gears from 2 & 4 high the posibilities of severe damage can result. Also note that 4x4 is not recommended on dry pavement. When 4x4 is being used also take care as to the handling and the steering characteristics change, On tight turns the front wheels will bind and possibly **** a little. If you have never had a 4x4 before, obey what i have told you untill you get the experiance and you will be fine. HAPPY TRAILS.... AND A LITTLE 4X4 FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where is shift actuator located on 1999 Jimmy 1999

I had the same problem with my 1999 Silverado which would blink several times on the mode I selected then go back to the 2 wheel High. I found the switch module to be defective, after replacing it I have never had the problem again.

The 4-wheel drive on our 2001 GMC Jimmy does not seem to engage. It is new to us and came with no manuals. Are we doing something wrong or is it just not working?

First and foremost can you tell me if the lights are showing up on the 4x4 selector switch ? Second if they are illuminated ( should be in 2-Hi ) when you select to go into 4-Hi or 4-Low does the selection flash? And Lastly can you hear a sound of any type (clicking, ticking, thumping) when you push the button?

My SUV is stuck in the 4X4L mode.

In order to get it to shift in or out of 4 lo the transmission must be in neutral with your foot on the brake and moving less than 5 mph. If it still does't change try tapping the shift motor with a block of wood, it could be stuck

Can,t get truck out of 4x4 low range

try putting your truck in neutral and then shifting into 2 wheel drive shift on the fly does not apply to 4 low only 4 high and on electric shift models it wont shift unless your ****** is in neutral.
