Stability system disabled & service 4wd message coming on my 2005 GMC Yukon. Also it is stuck in 4Low. Any suggestions as to what the problem(s) can be?

  • DebR Feb 25, 2013

Did you figure out what was wrong? My 2006 Yukon is doing the same thing, although not all of the time. Sometimes I start it and it will be stuck in 4Low, sometimes I start it and it's fine and then I will get a service 4wd message. Sometimes I will start it and no light shows up just the that the stability system is disabled and service 4wd. We were told we needed a part that was going to cost us $750.00. Hoping they've just misdiagnosed.

SOURCE: GMC Yukon XL is stuck in auto 4wd. Service 4wd

First get the codes from the transfer case control module. This will help in diagnosing the problem. You can try pushing the 2hi and 4lo buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds. This should put the transfer case in neutral. Then try going to 2 hi.See if this will get it out of 4wd.Let me know what you find.If you need more help let me know Good luck.

First thing I would check is the wheel sensors. If yours are in the hub then lift the wheel and check for any play from top to bottom of the wheel. this will indicate a bearing going out. this can play havoc on the trac system. Also check the wiring of the sensors, unplug it and inspect the leads for corrosion. Check the wires for wearing against another part. Check the plug ends carefully the wires tend to start breaking right where they go in to the plug.

GMC Yukon XL the "Service Stability" light is on and I was out for the evening and could not get it to go past 30 without a drain on the system. I was about a mile away from home so I sat for 15 min a

The service stability light will come on if there is a problem detected in the stability control system. There will be a code stored for this problem. The code will tell the technician working on it where the problem is. You need to get in to have this looked at soon. Waiting too long can cause additional damage to components on the system, depending on what is wrong. The traction control and the stability control system are disabled with this light on so there may be some poor handling/performance noticed with this light on. BotXXXXX XXXXXne, the code needs to be read and then a solution to the problem will be known. The best advice that I can give you.
hope it helps

Gmc yukon denali reduced engine power stability system disabled

I had the same problem in my Yukon Denali And after 4 throttle body's, replacing gas pedal, rewiring the grounds replacing sensors, took it to not one but two GMC dealerships who were useless they can't fix their own trucks they're not the brightest !!!! After thousands of dollars I found a mechanic very familiar with this issue you want the solution it will cost ya 500$ for me to tell ya!! Just kidding I know how frustrating this problem is okay here is the fix the problem is these electric throttle bodies are GARBAGE!!!!!!! Don't matter what u do or what u replace it will come back on unless u convert your electric throttle body to the old cable throttle the actual fix was 900$ but I spent thousands and thousands trying to fix it!!! Please save your money and tell ur mechanic u want to convert to the old cable throttle!!! Gmc is well aware of the problem but won't fix it for u cuz they're useless

I cant change my 2001 yukon out of 4low! There is a loud clicking noise when i try to drive in 4Low. What should I do?

You have torque bind. It is caused by driving on pavement in 4wd. 4wd is only supposed to be used on a slippery or loose surface. You'll need to try backing up for a few feet and then shifting it out. If that does not work, you'll need to get a jack and raise one end of the truck off the ground so that the axles can "unwind" and release the torque in the drive train.
