Follow the top radiator hose down to where it connects to the engine. You should find a dome shape item or a couple of smaller bolts that attach to the engine to the side of the radiator hose and the thermostat will be inside the housing. You will need to drain the radiator, remove the bolts holding the thermostat housing to the engine and remove the old stat and put in a new one be sure to make note of how the stat is facing when you remove it and put the new one in the same way. then reconnect the thermostat housing making sure the gasket is in place so it won't leak, then refill the radiator slowly so you don't cause an air lock in the radiator, with cap still off start the engine and allow it to warm up until the stat opens and then you will need to add more antifreeze to the system. Double check for any leaks. Turn on the heater and make sure you have good heat and you should be good
not impossible for the do it yourselfer but a large job just the same ,
the fan belt is the first to be removed , use the tension pulley let off tension and belt should slip right off
locate hose connections on steering pump , one has a simple hose type clamp that comes loose with a simple 5/16 nut driver , the other (high pressure) has a reverse flair nut use a tubing wrench to remove it (lefty loosy) some fluid will ooze out , next locate two mounting bolts that hold pump to engine use a six sided socket to remove them both , Now pump will come free from truck , to reinstall reverse these instructions
Follow the upper radiator hose from radiator to the engine where it connects to the engine thermostat will sit under that housing held on by two small bolt's.Hope this was very helpful, good luck.
You should have no problems replacing a thermostat housing or replacing a thermostat. get the correct thermostat and gasket if required and you'll have no problem.
Auto or manuel ?
I will assume auto - by majority..
You mean doing it yourself ??
Just a few tings to consider..
If you have experience - thats cool..
However - replacing a auto trans is a pretty involved job..
When the new trani goes in - the tourque converter has to be turned just right..
It can be a very tricky job..
You may want to consider doing it with someone that knows how with experience..
It isn't a particularly hard job but there are a few techniques that you need to know.
I wouldn't recommend you do it yourself but I would recommend you do it under supervision of someone who knows their stuff.
Retensioning the bearings correctly is extremely important.
