Chsnge the alternator, anything that blows a 100 amp fuse is a definate direct short to ground. Check for a loose or broken connection

SOURCE: 100 amp fuse in engine

For the 100 main amp fuse to blow it has to be a alternator issue , ECM or dead short with the electrical part of the ignition switch.
If the alternator is replaced and still the fuse blows then
check the actual electrical contacts of the ignition switch to see if they are shorted out.------
Check the wire between alternator B+ (large wire) and battery for problems. check negative ground wires to chasis and motor. --------- Also recheck all battery, starter alternator and ground wires and see , that no wire is connected in reverse order.------ Also try cleaning the 100 amp fuse socket with contact cleaner and then install the fuse and see , if it still blows.------Many a time fuse socket itself gets dirty and cause fuses to blow.------ Getting this possibilities checked should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

If the battery was bad, that could be what has been killing your alternator. I would make sure all connections are clean and tight, positive cables and grounds.

More testing and info needed. With the car stopped, how many volts at battery? With fuse out, how many volts at each terminal? With vehicle running, repeat previous measurements. What size fuse is popping? Answers to these questions will lead you in the right direction.

I have a 97 galant that keeps blowing the 100 amp fuse? alternator tested good twice checked wiring reads good is there another fuse ?

Usually that fuse powers the alternator and the fuse box.
It would have to be a big short to ground to blow that fuse.
Its possible the main wire to the alternator is touching a metal spot, or the alternator is shorting out inside when it is running.
What is draining the battery may be something else, or the battery could be discharging after the fuse blows if the alternator is not charging it.

Why was the battery replaced? Theres no reason the the 100 amp fuse to blow unless the alternator is shorted or you hooked up the battery backwards. I think the 100 amp fuse goes to the alternator. If it was hooked up backwards then you may have engine computer damage.

It keeps blowing the ECM Fuse, checked wiring but

My friend;
Try this;
  1. Did you insert same valued fuse i.e. { fuse rated 15APS with same fuse}.
  2. Check OP'S & voltage of the Alternator = 13.7 V DC - 14.8 V DC MAX.
  3. are you sure NO internal shorttings inside the ECM.
