Harmonic balancer 1994 Oldsmobile (car wont start) please help

I have a 1994 Oldsmobile Regency Ninty-eight. I replaced the harmonic balancer with a used harmonic balancer from pick and pull. BEFORE I replaced the harmonic balancer the car ran fine (but was just noisy). AFTER I replaced the harmonic balancer the car will only turn over but will not fire and is not getting gas. I was told maybe the harmonic balancer was not the right one, so I put the old one back on. But, still nothing. The car just turns over but will not fire and is not getting gas. I checked all fuses & all good. NOTE--before I took the old harmonic balancer off the car ran fine just make noise from the harmonic balancer that was broke. Someone please please please help me. I cannot get my children to school now.

SOURCE: cutlass supreme wont start

It could possibly be the starter, but before you get that far make sure the Battery cables are connected very tight. If loose the car won't start or do anything. Also make sure the battery cable is grounded.

If you suspect its a fuel problem best to do a fuel pressure test, you can rent a tester at auto zone and do it yourself. They also can show you how to use it and what pressure it should be. Also if you turn the key to on position you should hear a hum from the gas tank and then a click that is the pump running and the click is the relay, if you don't then the pump isent running, also chk. the fuse and relay, it could be as simple as a blowen fuse or a bad relay.

Check fusable links in your battery cable and starter wires. Do you have power at the starter where the positive cable attaches? Your battery is good? Do you have any power anywhere else?

Need to replace the harmonic balancer on a 1992 odlsmobile 98 regency

A harmonic balancer puller-cheap and easy to use-available at any auto parts store. The hardest part is getting the crankshaft pulley bolt loose. An impact tool is best, but not absolutely necessary. Old school way: not recommended, but I've done it this way: put a socket and long stout breaker bar on the crank bolt. Let the breaker bar end rest on the ground. Now use the starter to just bump the engine over one quick time-just one little bump is all it takes to loosen the crank bolt- if you positioned the breaker bar right. Good luck, Joe.

How to pull the crank shaft pulley on 91 oldsmobile

You will need to remove the bolt(s) and then use a gear puller. The crankshaft pulley normally a harmonic balancer also and will be keyed with a drift pin. You should be able rent a puller from Auto Zone or other automotive store.

I have a knock in the front of the moter in the pullys or harmonic balncer should you have free play in the balncer

No there should be no free play in the balancer. There is a rubber ring in the middle of two steel sections on that balancer that will rot out and cause a knockign issue and free play as you describe.
