started having problems with shifting into a higher gear, when I let off the pedal, it shifts, and is getting worse, sometimes if i step on the pedal it will shift at a high rpm

thanks for the reply, yes it does have a EAT switch, when the problem first apperaed was after i had it smogged, since then, it seems to have developed? maybe its my imagination, but i tried the switch while driving and didnt see any difference

Dwight, sounds like you are having some trouble with the torque converter. Check the fuild level and maybe even change the fluid and filter. When it does shift does it shift normal or hard?
get the help from service and repair manual and fix the problem by your own easily and you can get the manual from the given link easily http://toolsnyou.com/
Transmission will never hold the engine back if it is going through the gears properly. If it gets into high gear, eventually the engine will reach "redline" if you stay into it long enough. ("redline" for any engine is the point at which it cannot run any faster without harming itself.) DO NOT confuse that with proper shift points which should happen just before you reach max torque which happens way before you reach "redline" at which point you are way past the torque peak of the engine, and making no usable torque or horsepower. An example of this is a race engine with a max rpm limit of 10,000rpm.("redline") Depending upon the torque curve (determined by compression, stroke and type of cam grind) you would likely be shifting gears at about 7500 to 8500RPM not at 10,000. Therefore, your shift points are like climbing a ladder. you get just so high and though there are more steps, you will fall off if you go there. Each time you shift, you are putting the rpms back into the usable power band, till you reach the next step, then start over again. If your trans shifts early the engine will lug and labor. shifting too late and it will quickly reach "redline" and self destruct or go "flat". In a conversion, you need to make sure that the electronics that control shift points are working within the usable torque range. OR install a manual valve body and shifter and control it like a stick shift car, using your brain as the computer and a tach to tell you where you are.
Hi I am Vortash sounds like Torque slip check your fluid levels in the transmission. Rpm will rise if there is weak drive then as the vehicle reaches change speed it will snatch because the rpm is high .. if your levels are ok you may need to get your Torque converter checked out .. hope this helps regards Vortash
I am having trouble understanding what you are saying but it sounds like you are saying the transmission shift points are too high. (Holds the gears too long, RPM's too high before it shifts) RIght? Check to see if you have vacuum to the modulator at Idle. If yes replace the modualtor.
I have a 1999 Ram B 1500 Van, auto transmission, 5.9 L engine.
Same problem, trans hesitates in 2-3 upshift, sometimes 1-2
to 2-3 upshift. Posts trouble code P1756 - Transmission Govenor pressure too low at below 15 to 20 Psi. Transmission pump shot or valve body leak stops trans from reaching proper pressure to shift, which is minimum 15 Psi.
Either trans is leaking in valve body, valve is stuck, shift solenoid on valve body is sticking, or pump is shot.
