02 Sentra. Sometimes wont start when cold outside

Had checked by dealer, replaced vcv and canister, plugs, filters etc. stiil happening, any ideas???

  • Anonymous Feb 04, 2009

I have the same problem.Plug your block heater for at least 2 hours, but the problem will still exsist .I've replaced the air flow sensor, replaced the coolant tempature sensor beacause both do have an effect on cold starting, but still the same result. Now I know they had recalls on the crank sensor and it has been changed about 5 years ago, and will try to change this one again and see after

Saturn sl cylinder misfire

have a furl pressure test done to check for pump/pressure regulator / filter problems . Also check the canister purge valve solenoid and check for correct venting of the tank. Check that the filler cap is on correctly and tight.

2002 Nissan sentra engine light on and rpm needle bounces

I have the same car and had the check engine light come on for me as well.

Mine was because I put an after market cold air intake system and I took care of my filter by cleaning and replacing it when needed. If you have this or an a filter like a K&M air filter that has a bit of oil on it will coat on the O2 sensors and will eventually interfere with your O2 sensors giving your computer the wrong information like mine did and my revs went up as well. So I had to clean my 02 sensors and and reset my computer it fixes the problem or replacing the 02 sensors will of course work too but not needed. About 3-4 years then the check engine light came back on again and I went back to my normal stocked air intake and a regular filter and no more problems. I left my exhaust header on and I still have lots of power and fuel milage, so the cold air intake didn't icrease much power or fule milage... just a tad.

Hope this helps you a little.

1990 camry will not start

this is just a shot in the dark, but wiggle the wires on the top of the air filter canister...i had this same problem (though i never got in to check if the engine plugs) after I changed the air filter.

I had started to take that sensor off bove the air filter because i thought i had to, turns out i didn't need to do that. I put the air filter in, and my car wouldn't start...I unscrewed and screwed back in the tiny screws that hold that plug into the top of the airbox sensor thing (no idea what it's called)...and wiggled it around and it started fine again.

I will not change my air filter again!!

Its possible, that you crank angle sensor is failing. Also, that vehicle had a issue with the ECM/computer. Nissan put a set of foams inside of the ECM box to prevent the ECM from movement, however the glue that they used to attach the foams was causing the ECM to fail. The vapors from the glue would eat up vital circuits inside the computer causing failuer. I would go to your local dealer and provide them with your VIN nujber. With the VIN number, thay can check to ysee if the foam campaign has been doen and also the crank and cam angle sensor camaign. Nissan volunteraly replaced cam and crank angle sensors if the VIN number matches the campaign. Your ECM/computer is covered for 8years or 80000 miles. We are also starting to see timing chains getting stretched causing running issues, but you will have a "check engine light on" for cam angle sensor circuit. Anyhow, go to your local friendly NIssan dealer and have them run your VIN number to see if you have any open campaigns (crank and cam sensors, ECM foam etc.) Good luck and let me know what you find.
