2000 explorer xlt stuck in 4wd hi

Transfer case motor wiil not shift out of 4 wd hi. the wire harness from this transfer case motor goes to three seperate locations. Four wires go to a connector at the rear of the transfer case just below the drive shaft going to the rear differential. Three wires go to a connector just to the left of where the transfercase motor mounts. The remainder of the wires go to the transfer case motor. I dissambled the transfer case motor and the armature and brushes are clean, the motor does not smell burnt. With the transfer case motor was dissambled I checked voltage at the orange lead and read 11.5 volts at that point and when the selector switch was moved from auto to 4 hi I could hear a relay coming in and out for about 5 seconds and when the relay quit clicking the voltage went away. I was told it could be the switch in the dash or the module behind the radio or still possible the transfer case motor

Stuck in 4 low?

If you mean the light goes out as long as the motor is not installed then the transfer case is jammed in 4 wheel mode and it is a mechanical problem that requires the case to be removed and torn down or replaced with a rebuilt unit.

Four buttons on dash for 4 wd. won't stay on 2 wd and it goes back to 4wd by itself

Sorry, but three possibilities. Most likely the 4wd actuator motor on the transfer case went bad. This is pretty common. They also encounter switch problems, but it sounds like your switch is doing what it's supposed to. One more thing, there is a 4wd control module, usually in the right kick panel. I'm betting on the shift motor though.

The brown wire goes to the clutch in the transfer case that engages the front drive shaft. If you cut it you need to hook it up to the harness that comes down out of the truck. It doesn't have to go thru the connector but it has to be hooked up for the 4 wheel drive to work.

Hello, I have a 1992 Chevy K1500 pickup, 5 speed, 4WD. I just replaced thermal 4WD actuator for the front axle with the new motor type and with a new wiring harness. Always goes into 4WD right away now....

Sounds like you have the actuator switch set to tight. You might want to try to adjust the switch so it has a little room between the switch and the shifter. Hope this helps.

Stuck in 4 hi , changed the buttons on dash, changed transfer case shift motor lights on 2 hi flash but then it goes back to 4 hi any help ?

check the transfer case switch on top of transfer case.they sometime get stuck.if that is not the problem i would say it is your tansfer case control module.

1996 ford explorer 4wheel drive will not engage into the hubs need to know how it works

make sure your 4WD switch is working.and fuse is okay.because your 4WD is control by 4 electric shift motors in which drive a rotary cam which moves the mode fork and range fork inside the transfer case to select between 2WD HIGH A4WD - 4WD HIGH AND 4WD LOW RANGE.a shift motor sensing plate on the shift motor monitors the range in which the transfer case is operating a transmission range sensor monitors the gear position of the transmission.which must be in neutral to shift into low.a pair of solenoids one for 2WD one for 4WD.mounted on the upper right firewall route vacuum to the vacuum motor which engages and disengages the center axle disconnect collar in the front axle assembly.a 4 x 4 shift motor relay module contains two GEM controlled relays which shift the transfer case shift motor between 2WD and 4WD modes.a solid state clutch relay activates the A4WDclutch inside the transfer case.

4wd problem

While you have a helper try to shift to 4x4, get under the truck and tap the shift motor with a mallet.Sometimes the shift motors stick if they haven't been used in a while. If this doesn't work you might have to replace the transfer case shift motor.

4wd indicator lights flashing.

this sounds like you need both speed sensors and shift motor for your transfer case.
