This system should be self priming, however if it did run out of fuel, I highly recommend changing the filters. After doing so have an assistant turn key to run as you listen for fuel lift pump running,(under drivers side floor attached to frame, one of the fuel filters is part of pump, the other filter is on top of engine) Could have hurt pump by running dry. They are notorious for hard start after filter change and/or out of fuel.Hope this helps.

2004 ford f350 diesel starting problems fuel guage reads empty tank is full

crack open an injector line and look for fuel at that point if no fuel there, take off oil filtertype fuel filter and look to see if it has fuel in it..we had a ford f650 superduty that a driver ran empty and were forever bleeding att hthe air out of the system to restart it..on diesels the system can have no air in the lines anywhere..so if the filter is empty, fill it before installing it...saves on the starter getting hot...in extreme cases you can pump pressure into the tank up to 20 psi and force fuel up front be careful on plastic tanks though...good luck and repost please...

2006 f350 6.0 powerstroke diesel missing. help

there is no wastegate on a 6.0l turbo. its a variable geometry turbocharger and doesn't need it. i have never seen a turbocharger cause a misfire, the turbocharger is most likely not your problem. if you didn't clean the intake out when replacing the egr valve there is a really good chance that the egr is bad again. also, a bad egr cooler can cause repeat egr failure. also, fuel injector control module is a common cause for misfire

7.3 V8 DIESEL RAN OUT OF FUEL WILL NOT START

When you get some fuel you can unscrew the fuel filter and fill it with diesel. Then put the filter back on without spilling the fuel.

There should be enough diesel to prime the motor and get rid of the airlock. Also with diesels make sure you are using the correct tank if you have a tank switch.

Ford fusion 1.4 tdci will not start unless the hand pump is used

HAVE YOU CHECKED THE FUEL LINES WHERE THE FUEL PRIMING PUMP IS CONNECTED FOR ANY CHAFFING THEY ARE COMMON FOR CHAFFING BESIDE THE FUEL FILTER WHICH WOULD EXPLAIN WHY FUEL IS RETURNING TO FUEL TANK.

How to restart a diesel ford 6.9

crack the line loose at injector pump and pressurize the tank to force fuel through the line and forcing out the air. Or same method can be done on the fuel rails.
