It could be a faulty thermostat. Did it do the same thing before u replaced the t-stat? It sounds like it's sticking closed, then all of a sudden it opens, coolant flows correctly. I'd consider changing it again. Check to make sure parts store is giving u the correct temperature thermostat also. Maybe it's too high for your Ford, delaying the opening.

SOURCE: no heat when car not moving

Ok, judging from what you've said it sounds like a vacuum issue. The temperature controls are activated by vacuum which is produced by the engine. Look for small hoses that lead from the intake manifold to the firewall, check them and make sure they are not broken, disconnected, or leaking.  The vacuum directly controls the doors inside your dashboard which push the air to the heater core. Also make sure that the coolant hoses going to and from the firewall are hot.  If all that checks out, then the controls inside the car may have gone bad, or may have become disconnected from the vacuum supply, or the actuator door inside the dash is stuck or broken.

The temp gauge on my 2008 ram 1500 jumps from normal temp to hot checked engine the temp is fine my heater them puts out cold air and I have no heat if I shut heater off and wait a few minutes temp gauge...

It probably low on coolant. The heater will blow cold when there is not enough water (coolant) to keep the heater core full. Check the radiator (not the overflow reservoir) when it's cool.

Overheating problem

i had something similar once, it ended up being the intake radiator hose, it has a metal coil inside, mine was broken and when you revved the motor it would **** the hose shut and overheat, but under 2000 rpm it was fine .

First thing in the (cold) mornings heater wont work. water gauge flux's up and down weird . then about 20 mins into driving its warms up

Your engine coolant is what your heater gets the heat from. You need to start your car and let it warm up for awhile before any heat will come. This is how most cars heaters work. Yours sounds like it is working fine; most cars take a little while to warm up.

Hope this helps!

Heater blowing cold both sides

Does it blow warm air when you drive the car? If so its the water pump.

Could also be air in the coolant system

Also have the cylinder head pressure tested to rule out a hblown head gasket
Hope this helps

My engine keeps blowing out the anti freeze through the fill tank overflow. I have a 2004 Super Duty 6.0 turbo.

start you truck. let the temp gage get to where it will start blowing the antifreeze out. than turn your heater on full blast. if the temp goes down and the water doesn't come out than you need to change you thermostate.
