1998 sebring convertable was overheating, ad shop replace radiator (they said it was cracked) then they said was still overheating, they said they checked water pump and it was fine, needed new head gasket and or valve job, big big money. I brought the car home. When I run the car it overheats quickly, seems the mechanic left out the thermostat, but no water flows when the cap is off and the car idles and the heater will not blow warm or hot even when it is overheating?

Probably not water pump. Engine is notourious for vapour lock.
Cooling system must be blead of air before thermostat will work. Cool bottom rad hose is a dead give away. If you are still watching this forum reply , and I will walk you through the only way I know how to make it work properly. It's actually easy if you do it my way. I have worked on lots of cars , and this engine was the hardest to bleed out. Did one Yesterday , and works perfect.

SOURCE: 2002 sebring overheats, heater blows

Ohh that sucks!
I bet the engine light is on, too, huh? I bet if you took it to read the codes, it would say cooling system inefficiency, too.. Mine did the same thing and it was the timing belt slipping o the water pump.

Here is a walk through of how to find out for sure. It works on any engine that is running too hot.

Thanks for the vote.

Did you bleed the air out of the system after replacing the thermostat?

For air bleed procedure click the link below:--- http://technoanswers.blogspot.com/2011/07/bleed-air-out-of-system-after-replacing.html ------------
The other cause for over heating can be head gaskets. I agree that you mentioned head gasket checked ok, but still get it rechecked. You might still consider having a mechanic perform a leak test at the radiator cap with a special tool.
Next wuld be to check if the radiator fan is turning on. A fast way to do that is by unplugging the two-wire coolant temperature sensor while the ignition switch is on. That should cause the fan to run. If it does not, there might be a blown fuse for the fan. The best way to diagnose it is by using the DRB3 scanner to command the fan to run. ---------
If this checked out ok and still there is overheating problem. Then check if thermostat is opening.-------- If its not opening then yes car will overheat, even you replaced the thermostat, click this link below to troubleshoot thermostat problem even after its replaced:--- http://technoanswers.blogspot.com/2011/07/thermostat-replaced-but-still.html ------------ This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Remove thermostat and test it by dipping it in cold water ib an open pot. Heat the water on the stove while observing the thermostat. It shold opel just before the water boils. If it does check the radiator itself for clogging. Also fluch the engine water galleries.

How much will it cost for a 2001 sebring convertible new raditor and installation?

I found plenty of compatible radiators for around $100. Expect about 1.5 - 2 hours for the job plus you should also plan to replace the thermostat and all the coolant at the same time. So maybe $75 for the coolant and thermostat. Labor varies but a good independent shop I use charges $65/hr.

I included a link to a replacement radiator just to give you an idea of pricing. Chrysler Sebring Radiator

My 1997 camry overheated. We flushed the radiator, but noticed cracks in the reservoir. Will this be causing the issue, and will repair / repalcement stop the overheating?

The overflow tank won't cause it to overheat. If you have added radiator stop leak just replace the radiator is stopped up.

Can a radiator crack be repaired or replaced\r\n2001-catera

A readiator shop will sometimes repair a leaking radiator if it's in good shape otherwise. This is not a repair most would attempt. There is a radiator additive available at Pep Boys which may stop a radiator leak (or may not), but that's intended only as a patch until the radiator can be fixed or replaced.

1998 blazer blows warm air on heat, sometimes temp.gos up fast to red, had radiator flushed and flushed! looks like brown mud! and chunks think allot of stop leak was added only does this in winter it...

Sorry to hear about your cooling problem,
If it is as nasty in the radiator as you say,you will need to replace radiator. One option is to pull radiaitor and have a radiator shop clean out, but with it being a 98 the tanks will crack as they are plastic so I would recommend replacing. this was a problem on these older models with the dexcool they would get low in coolant and the air is system would turn it to sludge.

1998 Chrsler Sebring coolant gurlges - now overheating

yes some systems have to be burped or the boil over can occur in the motor and cause head gasket issues..at 195k i think you should check the system for leaks and thermostat if it is opening at right tempatures or is slow..plus the vented cap on your radiator check with vacuum gauge if it holds about 12-14 psi before it vents...
