Seems like you are having turbocharger problems the rattling may be coming from your turbocharger as well as the smoke may be the oil which the turbo its burning as it touches your hot manifold, hope this helps you .

SOURCE: audi a4 engine management light

Go to AutoZone or Advance Auto Parts and have them scan the ECU (they do it for free, where a shop will charge you). They'll give you the codes, and you can post them here. Once you do that, I can help you narrow it down.

SOURCE: audi a4 problem

I had this problem with my old Audi 80 and basically it was a knackered fuel pump. If your car is a few years old avoid the main Audi dealers and take it to an independant Audi/Volkswagon specialist and you will save a small fortune.

SOURCE: Car starts ok then cuts out

HI,HANNAH,I SUSPECT YOU HAVE AN IMMOBILIZER PROBLEM.IF THERE IS A ORANGE LIGHT FLASHING ON THE CLUSTER WITH AKEY IN IT THEN IT IS THE IMMOBILIZER.THE PROBLEM WOULD MORE LIKELY BE THE DATA FROM THE KEY IS NOT GETTING TO THE IMMOBILIZER CONTROL UNIT,USUALLY A BAD CONNECTION AT THE READER COIL ON THE IGNITION.YOU MUST CLOSE THE TERMINALS SLIGHTLY AND INSULATE THE WIRING SEPERATELY.ANDY

Ive gota 2006 audi a4 sline when a oil pressure light came on it stil drives does not rev over 2000 revs and throws alot of black smoke owt what isit

Black smoke is a sign of excessive fuel, there is something wrong with the fuel injection or one of the sensors which is sending an incorrect signal to the unit, perhaps it is still inn start enrichment. The oil pressure switch could be linked to the start system and the switch is either faulty or the engine oil pressure is failing.

Car starts but revs for a few seconds with lots of black smoke and then cuts out have disconected exhaust from manifold but no change

Is this a diesel TDI PD ?? If so i had the same problem with one of these TDI engines and traced it to the crank sensor signal implausable. The revs would start increasing with no pressure on the throttle, lots of black smoke and then cut out. The crank sensor wiring was at fault in this case. The ECU didnt know where the crank position was in relation to the camshaft and was guessing when to inject the fuel. Hence the black smoke ! Hope this is of some use.

My 1997 audi a4 tdi starts up but if i give it a too much thottle it sounds like it's running on 3 cylinders after a while it clears it does not do it when its warm. also the revs stick at about 3500rpm...

is the engine actually racing or is the tachnometer going up on its own. is the check engine light on and did you have it scanned? is the car smoking at all before it warms up? please provide this information and any other that you may have concerning the problem as this will help pinpoint the problem.

2000 Audi A4 quattro with abrupt gear shifting & low oil pressure

I hope that you had the proper weight oil installed, at your oil change. If your oil is up to the proper level, and it's rattling ,this is VERY bad. White smoke usually means steam in the exhaust, and that means a blown head gasket. Check your coolant level. I wouldn't drive it anymore......until someone knowledgeable can diagnose it!!!!!

White tail smoke, both temp gauges (oil/engine)

Alright there your on the money there. A4 audi's and The 2liter golfs do haed gaskets at around 145-150,000 miles. the oil's foamy kinda yellowie cream. Tip for ya When you do the head gasket cahnge the rad and water pump at the same time. Mine didthe same it's costly but worth it for piece of mind, Plus is the only time you get to the water pump apart from changing the timing belt.

Audi a4 problem

I had a similar problem on my Audi A4 1.8T after three seperate trips to different garages I was told I needed a new ignition and it could only be re-coded at an Audi dealer - was told it would cost in the region of £500. As the car was not worth much more than this I did a little research myself and found that the ignition key may have been intermittenly losing its code (as sometimes the car would start ok) I had a new key cut at my local key specialist at a cost of £20 and its been fine ever since (that was over 2 years ago)
Hope this helps

A4 warm start up problem

It is very likely that you are having an air leak. Any uncontrolled air getting into the intake side can cause this problem. Audi is well known for vacuum problems. I was the southern technical specialist for Audi for 6 years. If you have a vacuum test pump you can do some testing yourself but to be honest there are so many little hoses on that engine that you most likely not get to them all. I would suggest you go to your mechanic and see if they can perform a smoke test on the system. Many shops have a tool that can inject smoke (like a smoke machine at the club) into the system and locate the leak rather fast then.
