1995 Volvo 940 flywheel

How do I adjust the flywheel? I guess this has something to do with the timing.

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

The fly wheel has nothing to do with the timing, that's only used to crank the engine over when the starter engages into it.If you have a problem with the timing, you need to be more informative on what it's doing, plus the year, the make, model, and size of engine.

1995 940 has a crank position sensor mounted at the top rear of the engine which reads cranks position off the flywheel. Though not adjustable, it is a part which fails often causing weird and intermittent no start/hard start problems as well as other faults. While the part is not too expensive, you do have to crawl on top of the engine to see it, and its a pain to replace. Guess you could remove the hood, but I have changed mine without doing so. Get light on the area, and you can do it. If you are having timing too far advanced issues (running on when killing engine or "pinging" on acceleration several other parts may be suspect. Knock sensor, spark plug issues, carbon buildup, O2 sensor, lean condition and more. Good luck.

Timing problems

Ok, the problem you're having is not very common however to solve this you need to replace the flywheel with the one that come with your new engine because the gears on both flywheel are different and the speed sensor will have difficulty reading the gears. Therefore the car will either misfire or not start. Did you relpace the engine with a 940 volvo 93 and up?
