E Class 320 - W11 model - Same problem, boot wont open electronicaly by the boot release latch above the number plate, the boot release button inside the car or the key fob! I have to use the manual key to mechanically open it now. What could it be?? Please advise

Does the key work in the boot? I wonder if the vacuum line to the lock mechanism has been somehow comprimised? ie: overstuffing items in there. And I don't think you can get in through the back seat.

I have a e320 2003 model, the same has happened to me. I wondered if it could be the fuse but couldn't find a fuse that managed the boot.....
This problem is identical to the other post "boot wont open electronicaly by the boot release latch above the number plate, the boot release button inside the car or the key fob! I have to use the manual key to mechanically open it now."

1998 C180- My son took the battery out to charge and closed the boot which we could not then get back into because there was no power.(**** heads at Merc need a beating) We got the boot open by placing positive battery lead to positive connector under bonnet- you can find the lead close to the fire wall above wheel arch- those leads are not hidden you will see them. Using a battery and leads connect the positive (red) to the positive then earth the other led, then use remote to open boot.
If this does not work use an axe lol

I had the same problem with my 1999 e class, battery was fine, but would not open boot either with remote, mechanical key or switch on centre console.
under the rear seats next to battery is a bank of fuses, should be a sheet of paper with the fuses listed attached to the fusebox, on mine i think it was number 3, took it out, it seemed ok, and put it back in, but boot opened on push button when i tried it, so assume the fuse just got out of position and not making good contact

SOURCE: Mercedes S320 central lock

The Key Fob needs to be syncronised to the car........Try this it works for many Mercs1....ensure the battery in the "Key Fob" is OK............Press either Lock or Unlock button for more than 1 second, the lamp on the fob will light if OK. Change battery if it does not illuminate!  2.....if battery on fob OK.......Re Syncronise the key fob to the car by:.... a brief press on either button twice and within 30 seconds turn Key to position 2 on the ignition lock
Hope that fixes it...let me know?

This one will have to go to your dealer. There have been problems with this system and you might need a new ignition. If you complain long and hard enough I bet you could get factory help with the bill.

My c220 2002 model boot only opens with a key what could the problem be

Hi spray the lock and the mechanism with WD40 dont be shy with it, ensure you spray the underside of the boot lid where it meets the lock, the electric motor may be struggling to open without the key, spray everything and repeatedly lock and unlock with both the key and the remote after a while it should free off, if the lock is stiff then the motor will not be able to force the latch over and open the boot.

It is very common on mercs, like I say dont be shy with the wd40 it normally fix's this fault.
