My key fob stopped working, I replaced the batteries and it still wont work. Do I need to reprogram it since I replaced the batteries? Or do I need to go to the dealership and get a new key fob?

Check to see if you put the battery in right.

SOURCE: alarm system has stopped working.

please explain what year a X registration vehicle is ,as i have no idea ,last one i remember was a T 1978 .Now i think that this alarm fob might need re-programming into the vehicle where you swing on the aerial whilst holding the key fob in teeth and pressing the brake and the FM button on the radio at the same time ,When my all data books arrive next week i might be able to help but yes i have had this problem before and yes we do have these vehicles here in spain but mainly diesels ,now last time it happened when a customer changed the batterys i held the button down on the fob then turned the ignition on and it all sort of bleeped and started working ,but perhaps an american person with more experiance than myself might know how to do it correctly ,Now if you ask me about a humber hawk or a morris minor??

SOURCE: I can't start my 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee with

Hi Hal,

Did you ever get this resolved? Looks like you didn't get any feedback here! I'm having the same issue sporadically. I turn the key and nothing. Usually if I keep trying it will eventually start cranking and start. Usually within 10 - 15 tries. happened last night. After it started, I got the "Service Security Key" message. I looked in the manual and it does say what that means. Don't know if it is programming (probably not because the fob works 97% of teh time) or maybe just a dying battery. If you can share anything you might have founf out I'd appreciate it! thanks!

I have a 2006 Jeep grand Cherokee my key fob alarm stopped working put a new battery in it what else can I do

The key fob will need to be reprogrammed to the vehicle since when the battery was replaced in the key fob, the key was reset. This is why nothing is working with the key fob. After replacing the battery in the key fob remote, you will need to reprogram the remote to the vehicle

How to reprogram 2010 Dodge Charger key fob when battery replace

The fob should not need reprogramming. Changing the battery in it will not affect how the fob works. Even changing the vehicle battery won't have any effect on it. Fobs are Not normally reprogrammable, they usually need replacing instead.

Keyless remote wont work

when you replace the batteries you may have to have the fob key reprogrammed to the immobiliser in the car. Any dealer service centre can do it for you.

Fob key wont work just replaced battery in fob and keys wont lock manually either, car has been standing for awhile.

Key fobs can be tricking and even something as simple as changing the battery can cause some issues. The good news is there are a few tricks to try before you panic.

1) The old car battery reset trick
I know this sounds absurd, but it works sometimes and is worth trying. If you exhausted all of the options above, disconnect bot terminals on your car battery for 10 minutes. Then reconnect them and try your key fob. This has worked for many people and I have no idea why. If you do, please comment below to explain.

2) Get it checked
Go to your local hardware store like AutoZone or Oreilly's. They usually have a RF frequency tester. This little gadget will let you know if your key fob is sending a signal. If it is, you may need to reprogram your key fob to your vehicle

3) Make sure the battery in the key fob is installed correctl
Try turning the battery upside down. If you have the positive end on the negative terminal it is not going to work.

Hopefully one of these tips will get the key fob working again. If not you can always purchase a replacement key fob online from

Are you sure the connection to the battery inside the FOB is good? The one I have, it is possible to push the battery too far down and it does not quite connect.
A dealer can also reprogram it or sell you a new one based on your vehicle is number.
