Check your bank 2 plugs for colour (do they look hot like they running hot ). Check you EGR Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve (looks like a 80mm diameter spaceship with a vacuum line to the top of it) If this remains closed the engine runs very hot and causes misfire. Possible causes are EGR not opening are 1) perforated diaphragm 2) encrusted valve stem 3) clogged exhaust gas feed pipe. A quick check for function: run the engine and remove the vacuum tube. The engine note should change as the tube is connected and then disconnected. Also pushing on the underside of the EGR with your fingers to lift the diaphragm to open the valve should also result in change in engine note. If its not working just disassemble the EGR and clean with carb cleaning spray, also clean the exhaust gas feed pipe likewise.

Has any one had problems with bosh oxagen sensor not working properly

Hi there:
Are you buy same or OE part replacement according with the Hyundai part number catalogue? This is important. Keep in midn that you need reset or delete all previous code stored in the car computer.

DTC P0131 - Oxygen O2 Sensor Circuit Low Voltage (Bank 1, Sensor 1)
Essentially the same as P0136 and P0137, a P0131 code refers to the first oxygen sensor on Bank 1. P0131 means the O2 oxygen sensor's voltage remained low for longer than 2 minutes. This, is interpreted by the ECM as a low voltage condition and sets the MIL. Bank 1 Sensor 1 is located in front of the catalytic converter.

There may be no visible symptoms to the driver, other than the MIL (Check Engine / Service Engine Soon) illumination.

A code P0131 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
- Faulty o2 oxygen sensor
- Short to voltage on O2 signal circuit
- High resistance or open on O2 signal circuit

Possible Solutions:
- Replace faulty sensor
- Repair short, open, or high resistance on o2 signal circuit

Now, about DTC P0135 - Oxygen O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1, Sensor 1)

A code P0135 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
- O2 Heater element resistance is high
- Internal short or open in the heater element
- O2 heater circuit wiring high resistance
- open or short to ground in the wiring harness

Possible Solutions
Repair short or open or high resistance in wiring harness or harness connectors
Replace oxygen sensor (cannot repair open or short that occurs internally to sensor)

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

The engine light and VSC light are on (Vehicle Singapore 2004 Lexus RX 300. Diagnostics report Error code P0037

your o2 sensor is bad. vsc will go on for any small DTC displayed on the MIL (cel)

P0037 LEXUS P0037 LEXUS - Oxygen Sensor Heater Control Circuit Low Bank 1 Sensor 2 Symptoms - Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
Possible causes - Heated Oxygen Sensor (H2OS) Bank 1 Sensor 2 circuit open shorted to ground
- Heated Oxygen Sensor (H2OS) Bank 1 Sensor 2 circuit poor electrical connection
- Faulty Heated Oxygen Sensor (H2OS) Bank 1 Sensor 2 circuit
- Heated Oxygen Sensor (H2OS) Bank 1 Sensor 2 circuit fuse
- Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM) When is the code detected? The P0037 is set when the ECM detects an excessively low voltage through the heated oxygen sensor heater circuit P0037 LEXUS Description Oxygen Sensors (O2S) or Heated Oxygen Sensors (HO2S) need to reach a minimum operating temperature of 750 degrees F to produce an accurate voltage signal. The faster the heated oxygen sensor reaches that temperature the faster the sensor will start sending an accurate signal to the Engine Control Module (ECM).

In order to achieve the require temperature, a heater element is included inside the heated oxygen sensor. The ECM controls the heated oxygen sensor heater element based on signals from the engine coolant temperature and engine load. The ECMcontrols the heater element circuit by allowing current flow to ground.

The ECM monitors the voltage signal received through the heater element circuit and determines the state of the circuit by comparing the voltage detected with the factory specifications.

Hi, I need to take my 2001 Mazda 626 4cyln for SMOG check in CA. But its check engine light is on, diagnosed as code P0421. Appreciate your help to fix this problem, or just to pass the check. Thank you.

CODE P0421. DEFINITION-CATALYST EFFICIENCY LOW-BANK 1. EXPLANATION-THE OXYGEN SENSORS MONITOR THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS ABILITY TO STORE OXYGEN. PROBLEM CAUSES- 1. CATALYTIC CONVERTER DEFECTIVE (FAILURE POSSIBLY DUE TO #2,3, OR 4) 2. ENGINE MISFIRE OR RUNNING CONDITION. 3. LARGE VACCUM LEAK 4. ENGINE OIL LEAKAGE INTO EXHAUST-VALVE GUIDE SEALS, PISTON RINGS. THE PCM HAS DETERMINED THAT THE WARM UP CATALYST EFFICIENCY FOR BANK 1 IS BELOW TRESHOLD FOR THE CURRENT ENGINE OPERATING CONDITION. replace O2 sensors, or your Catalytic Converter.
