The connections in my FOBs were corroded so we had to take them apart and clean them with alcohol - now the battery has been replaced and I can see that the FOB would work 'cos the panic button works, but it needs to be programmed for my vehicle - Dealership wants to charge me over $100 for the reprogramming. Our FOB controls locks and has a remote starter the locks are the most important to me
Your local auto locksmith would be cheaper than the dealer but it is worth noting some cars/fobs are self programming and in that case the instructions might be in the vehicle handbook.
The driver of one GM car showed me how he sat in the car and switched on the ignition and then operated the fob and the electronics talked to each other and the new fob was coded.
I suggest you make further enquiries...
Could be the large cost was for recoding the whole system. Sorry I can't help further, I really don't know much about such things.
Because of remote start fob needs to be flashed at dealer

Key fobs tend to hold their code indefintely. The batteries in them are probably burnt. Open up one of the fobs and replace the battery (hearing aid type) then they should work fine. Good Luck!~
