Saab 9-3 trip computer SID with only partial display, fixable?

It is a 2002 saab and the information display does not display across the full panel. Is it something that can be fixed?

I have seen a few places on line that will let you swap out your SID with a refurbished one for a price. According to what I've read after googling this issue like crazy, the refurbs are better because it fixes the problem while a new (and very expensive) replacement will eventually just do the same thing.

TRY THIS: http://www.saab9-5.com/howto/sidrepair.htm
That shows Step by Step info how to do it, and it looks promising, Im going to try that on my 9-5 Trip computer and Im sure the 9-3 has the same since Saab models from 1998 - 2003 have the same common problem, save yourself the money on a refurbished one, I got quoted $300 for a new one, why bother if I can fix it myself, and if I scew it up, then buy a refurb one,

Hi,This is quite a common fault on all SAABs ,there is a procedure for trying a fix this is available on the the Saabscene owners forum it involves removing the SID unit dis-assembling it and re-seating the ribbon.

Ok, you most likely need to replace the coolant level sensor. It sounds like it out. If that doesn't fix it let me know.

My LED is no longer readable on my 1999 Saab 9-5 Turbo. I'm wondering how I could fix this myself?

I assume you're referring to the SID (system information display) that shows the temperature, distance to empty, etc.

You CAN take this apart and apply pieces of foam or rubber to increase the tension/pressure being applied to the LCD panel itself.

Here's a nice walk-through: http://www.thesaabsite.com/93/Saab-Sidrepairs.htm

How do I switch off the service messages on my year 2000 Saab 9-3

Are you talking about the "Time for Service" message on your SID (Saab Information Display)? Press the CLR button (hold it down), and you'll hear a "ping!" keep your finger down, and you'll hear a second "ping!" and it will be gone.

Resetting average fuel economy

You only need to have the SID display the information (average fuel usage) and presse the CLEAR button for a few seconds (hold it) and it will reset to 0. When you start driving it will start avereging again. Any settins displayed with a stricked 0 can mean average and can be reset that way.
