1999 Pontiac Grand Am won't start

Tried jump starting my car and both times it died again after about 30 seconds - could it just be the battery or something else? If something else - what could it be?

I believe your alternator is not charging so with your battery weak it keeps draining it .the car should run after jumping if alternator is good.

1999 Pontiac grand prix dies while I am driving and some times wont even start back up again at all. 3800 SE 72,000 miles in great condition this just recently started.

first guess would be the fuel pump or fuel filter

There are many things that can cause the symtons described.First is Crank Sensor,second is Ignition Module,third is the PCM.

I suggest you pull the battery and have it checked. Most chain auto parts stores will do this for free. It can take a while if your battery is dead. Another way is to swap batteries with another car. After you get your car started disconnect the positve ( red) battery cable. If the engine dies your Alterator is bad. If you have a bad Alterator it could have ruined your Battery too. If the engine continues to run it is probably a bad battery.
