Straight answer is get it sorted! Your Car is telling You! What is required? a service! So if you can't do it take it to someone who can! You can't expect a computer you asked a question to do it for you? Thanks for your time??
There may be a way to get the computer to show you the codes, but the best bet is to take your car to your local Autozon (or similar) and have them pull the codes for you. They can reset the Check Engine Light (but may not due to inspection issues). Otherwise you can reset it by disconnecting the negative battery cable for 5-10 minutes (15 to be safe). When you reconnect, your Check Engine Light should be off and all of the codes cleared, except a new one showing that power was lost to the computer. I don't believe there is an OBDII code for oil change, so take it and get the code read before you reset it. If you want to know what the code means, go here.

possible oil pressure switch, oil pump itself, or rod bearing issues due to poor oil change history. (that last one is more of a knock that a tick)
Sounds for sure like you aren't getting the proper oil pressure and the ticking would most likely be the cam/rockers/valves letting you know they need more oil on them.
it could just be a failing oil level sensor but it could be clogged up oil return passages
check the oil passages this way. first check you oil cold and fill to full, the drive your car until the can get the light to go on , pull over right away ,pop the hood and check the oil again , you have to do this fast like right then!, all within like 60 seconds from the time you shut it off till you know what the dipstick says!
if it's low you have oil being held up in the valve cover area this is most likely due to someone not doing oil changes regularly.
start doing oil changes. really often like every 2000 miles or so. this should clean your engine out
also take note of how quickly your engine oil turns black after an oil change , you should still be able to see through it on the dipstick for over a 1000 miles or more , if not you have dirty engine.
The RX 8 engine burns oil pretty bad. Majority of time the oil light coming on is due to the oil level being just a little low. When the engine is cold check the oil level if its full then is another issue but if a little low just add a little oil at a time till full then light should stay off.
This happened to me when I forgot to change my engine oil when it was due for an oil change. After I changed my engine oil, it took about 200 miles for the Engine light and flashing cruise control to turn off.
yes yes.The check engine light comes on when oil change is due.But there are also many other reasons for check engine light on.If you want to confirm what is the exact reason of check engine light on.then its advisable to get the car scanned.
At diagnosis center you will receive the error
code.As per the error code it will detect the exact faulty part in the car due
to which the problem is occurring. For more help :--- at www.autozone.com its
absolutely free to get car scanned. ------ The check engine light comes ON because your car has saved any kind of error in your cars ecu(ecu means cars computer memory).Once the reason is detected you can replace that part or get your oil filled up. Thanks.
