Hi what is happening is that your turn off your car and left the wheels turned to one side and specially if your car is parke in a hill what you have to do is to force the steering wheel to the same direction of your wheels this will free up the ignition switch it is going to be hard let me tell you but it will work and this is why your shift don't work once you have the ignition switch free then your shift will work again

I am having this issue with my 2001 xterra. Its been a pretty consistent problem if the battery ends up dying. Right now, I dont have the clicker for the xterra's security system any longer and the battery died over the wknd. We can not seem to get the truck to start for anything. I have used the instructions that were given for the reset of the alarm by putting the key in the door but that didnt work. At this time, the electric door locks wont even work. The battery is fully charged now, and its a good battery. My dash lights come on, my radio works. I am not real sure what else to check. I thought there was a fuse that could be pulled to bypass the kill switch but to no avail. Any additional suggestions?
