My 2006 Volkswagon Passat has just recently been making weird noises when I press the brake...they work perfectly fine but there's a strain and muffled noise when I press them that gets louder as I press them harder. Please help! I have invested a lot of money in this car and I can't afford to do it again.

Make sure brake pads are a good brand, some cheap brands are to hard and make a noise when they come into contact with the disc, also make sure the discs are not worn, worn discs get a ridge around the edge where the pad doesnt make contact, that ridge stops the pad from making complete contact with the disc surface resulting in obscene noises, i cant remember off hand if the rear are disc or drum, so best check them as well, the drum suffers the same prob if worn as do the brake shoes.

SOURCE: loud noise and vibration in the hole car when driving especially

By the sound of what your saying i think the easiest and cheapest thing is to check the driveshaft. Besure to check the uni's. You may not see any problem with it if this is the case remove it and check the yoke of the gearbox & diff if these are ok take the driveshaft in in the shop to be rebalanced.

SOURCE: New brakes still making grinding noise

Sounds like it is your hub bearings.  Jack the car up and check for play in the hub bearings.  More than likely this is your issue and the bearings need to be replaced.  Hope this helps.  Thanks for an honest rating.

I have a passat 2006 fsi. The Parking breaks wont release after pressing the release button

I had the same problem on my Passat Variant 2007.
Randomly Park Brake won't activate and/or deactivate once button PB pressed.
The cockpit computer tells "Park Brake Error" (or something similar).
If this is your problem, the issue is very well known to VW Service centers.
I had solved it by bringing the car to the Service: The told me that they substituted the ParkBrake Button (a differently made one, even if identical on the exterior) and Reprogramming (Updating) the car computer software.

My 2006 2.0 litre turbo volkswagon passat started making this very loud whistling noise yesterday evening when i left owrk. The car had warmed up and I start hearing this noise. What could this be? No...

You are the bestt person to identtify the source of the sound before we can go about a long check list. so open up the bonnet if you think it is from the engine side. Look for possible noise from
1. water pump
2. Alternator bearings
3. Idler pulley
4.AC clutch pulley
5. Belts..Tip Is: try to pour some water over the belt to confirm
6. main crank pulley
Hope you check this out. Helpful I hope. Good day

How do you turn off the immobilizer on a Volkswagon Passat and remove the wrong key that was used?

Just happened to me in a 2006 VW Passat 2.0T - Automatic. You simply need to depress the brake and then press the button on the shift lever 3 times. You will then hear the key being released and you can pull it out.

Whenever I turn my steering wheel left to right it makes a noise

hallo
if power steering fluid is bubbly, means that its sucking air somewhere before(sucking side) (or on) power steering pump. that would explain the noise. Check (when cold) fluid level. if level is low, top up before starting the car. had a lot of cars that high preasure hose was leacking fluid on restricting valve. if so, fluid comes out on the end of protecting cover of the hose. (driver side on spark plugs and down the engine). replace hose with original. do not try to make it your self, becouse steering wheel will shake, sinse restracting valve is missing.
But if you press brake pedal, that has nothing to do with it.

My automatic volkswagon passat will not shift out of park.

You may try to take the console out from around the shifter and in there its a little moving rod that kind of rocks back and forth to unlock your gear from park when the brake has been steped on.A lot of times drink gets spilled in those and then when you step on the park brake it want disingage which makes it stick in park intermitinly.Any questions just let me know

Front brakes lockin up

Tell them to come and get it, and get it fixed right, like YESTERDAY!

Brakes are a safety factor. There is no if's, and's, or but's, when work is done on the brakes. Now these so called 'Mechanics', need to check the rotors, pads, and all associated brake hardware, to make sure no damage has been done.

I suggest this. I suggest you contact the State Attorney Generals Office of your state. Consumer Division. Tell them your findings. They'll send you a complaint form. Perhaps they'll fax one to you, and after filling it out, fax it back.

They will NOT EVEN, be amused by your findings, and will let the Volkswagon dealership know of this.
I suspect you'll be getting a call from the Volkswagon dealership. Something to the tune of very apologetic, and could you bring the car back.

NO, you cannot! It needs to be picked up on a wrecker, or car hauler. The brakes might get somebody killed.

If there's one thing in life, that you don't want as an automotive repair shop, or dealership, it's a call from the State Attorney Generals Office. Fines of up to $10,000 a day can be levied, and worse things can happen.
