Loud click and buzz when trying to start car

For a while, the car would start. But every so often the car wouldn't start unless I let it sit for 15 minutes. Then It would turn on as if nothing was the problem. A couple days ago, my car completely died. Most thought it was the oil or battery so I replaced both. The battery in there now is brand new and still the car wont turn over. When I turn the key, I hear one loud click (a hollow "ting" sound) and then a short buzz (like power windows going up). Also, when I hold the key in the start position, white smoke and the smell of burning wires come up. Can this all be fixed by putting in a new starter?

Check battery cables. loud click can be bad starter, ground cable will cause this fault. turn lights on. turn key on to start. if lights go out, for sure you have a battery cable problem..

Your starter is shot. The click and the ting sound is your bendex not engaging properly. You can catch car on fire, or mess up your computer if you keep trying to start it. Be sure to disconnect the battery when you change it. Good luck

Thank you for the advice. Hopefully the starter will fix this issue.

After you get the old starter out, you can have it tested to be 100% sure. Any place that sells starters usually test them for free too

SOURCE: I replaced my starter for a 98 chevy suburban 2

Possible not shimmed correctly. The starter teeth have to engage correctly for the starter not to hang up. That's what probably happened & broke teeth off. You had better check your flywheel around the entire circumfrence as teeth may be missing from it as well. Starter won't engage if teeth and flywheel teeth in same spot are broken off. If the flywheel teeth are bad, it will be a spendy fix to put a new one on... Rick

SOURCE: Engine cut out while driving. Would turn over, no start.

If it were mine, I would check to see that there is fuel to the engine and the ignition system is working.

SOURCE: Why won't my '98 Chevy

You know the 97 to 04 Malibu is noted for intake manifold leaking antifreeze into the engine. A little antifreeze in a cylinder can keep the piston from moving in compression stroke. Take a look at the spark plugs, see if any of them have antifreeze on them and maybe the starter will spin the crank with the plugs out.

you may be getting fuel but you are starving the cylinders from it. after sitting this long, i would replace the injectors because they will corode inside after 7 years. agood injector cleaner might work but they are probably too far gone. you might have sent a lot of corosion from the fuel tank the first time you ran it & that will add to total shut down of the fuel injectors. also check your oil pressure, or it may jump on timing due to stiff cam bearings. depending on klts, it would be good to use slightly heavier oil grade. you may also want to check your ignition coil for proper supply to plugs. bin there, dun that.

1997 honda accord loud buzz near engine when accelerator pressed?

Sounds like either: 1) A exhaust heatshield is loose. They're simply thin metal guards around your muffler/CATS. If you find one loose, remove it or have it welded back on. 2) Broken motor mount. This is serious and requires pulling the engine from the car. If a motor mount is broken, the engine wont sit right and cause multiple vibrations. Hope this helped!

My car will not go into gear unless its started and already in gear. Ill pull it outta gear and won't go back in while running.

Your transaxle will have to come out & new parts installed,
like synchro rings

You should be able to push in the clutch & shift thru all
gears nice & smooth, with no engine running.

That said I wouldn't rule out clutch issues also, but not
for the shifting issues.

WON'T START CONTINUOUS BUZZING FROM SOLENOID

Sounds like the battery is dead. You can try a jump start and see if the car will start. If it does I wouldn't have any issue with replacing the battery and see what happens. You can also measure battery voltage with a voltmeter. You should see 12 volts with the key off, on, or cranking. If the battery voltage is not 12 volts than it is dead or low on charge. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using FixYa.com!

My first thought would be: If you repaired an emissions hose, take the car back to Auto Zone (or another parts supplier) and let them tell you what code comes up now. You eliminated one problem, now you have to find another.
I wouldn't do a fuel pump without more information.

The car died on sode of road now will not start but will try and turn over makes a loud clicking noise

Your alternator has died in which has drained you're battery, You wont be able to get home unless you get it towed. The loud clicking noise is normal, dont worry, all it is is you're starter trying to start the car but it doesent have enough power to do so.
