Star bit on front brake 2000 chevy 1500 ?

Trouble removing star bolt on front brakes on 2000 chevy 1500. T-50 star socket fits loose and next size to big. Do they come in metric sizes? Or am I doing something wrong?

YES THEY COME IN METRIC SIZES. AND,MOST GM PRODUCTS ARE ALL METRIC THESE DAYS. GET A MERTIC SET. YOU WILL ALWAYS USE THEM AGAIN. TOOLS ARE A GOOD INVESTMENT.

The right size is T55 clean internal star out well with a pick tap the head with hammer to try to help break it free. If you have already striped it with a t50 bit try using a sharp chisel and a hammer to form a notch in the side of the head of the bolt than use a blunt chisel and a hammer to try to turn it out. Good Luck !

The proper socket will fit snug. The range of sizes is such that one size smaller will feel like it will work.

You can pick up the proper one at a auto parts store.

AND, make sure it's not an allen bolt. I don't think GM uses torx on the calipers.

My Dad Has 2008 E350 4matic trying to replace front brakes. Don't have a long Allen wrench to remove caliper. Anyone know what size so I can buy and remove? Thanks Curtis

Probably is a T-50 bit that fits on your rachet...you can buy a set of star key bits...these are not allen wrenches...Hope this helps.

What size star socket cavalier brake cylinder

If its the cylinder for the rear drum brakes and not the caliper bolt it is a e6 female torx socket or wrench that will remove the two retaining bolts.

How do i remove brake caliper on a chevy avalanche in order to replace brake pads

Jack up the tire you are working on then remove your wheel (13/16 socket?). Next, The Caliper is held on by two bolts, they will be tight and I'm pretty sure the head is a special star, M15 size maybe? Whichever one you can get loose, loosen it and remove. Then the caliper will pivot away from the rotor on the remaining bolt. You may have to stick a screwdriver in between the rotor and the caliper and pry up slightly. After the caliper and rotor are seperate from eachother, the brake pads will both slide out. Replace and put back together in reverse order. IMPORTANT- clean everything with brake parts cleaner including the back of the pad, but make sure you do not get cleaner on the rotor or the part of the pad that touches the rotor. It's important the back side of the pad is clean, however, because this prevents squeaking.
