Changed out thermostat & truck is now skipping...????

I changed out my thermostat and now my 1998 ford Explorer is now skipping when I drive it. I checked all of the vaccum hoses and all are connected, what could cause it to skip?

Skipping means misfiring while idling and/or driving, all sensors and vaccum hoses are connected!

Make sure that all of the sensors are connected.  Is the Check Engine light on?  Make sure that all of the spark plug wires are still secure.
What do you mean skipping?  Is there an ignition miss (e.g. cylinder not firing) or is the ignition cutting out periodically?

you live in a cold place-the thermostat you replaced may not be good-try another one-or put card board in front of grille, not against radiator that could cause overheating- cheers Denny

Have you checked the coil pack and module under the coil pack? It could be cracked or have debris around the connection.

Changed out thermostat, saw spring in bottom of housing, is that needed? and if so, for what reason. 1998 for explorer

Was the spring there when you removed the old thermostat or did it show up when you put the new one in. It sounds like the spring that is a part of the old thermostat broke.
Good Luck.

Just changed the thermostat in my 2005 ford sport track.. but heater still blows cold...gages arent showing that is over heating and can i still drive??

The usual problem after changing a thermostat, is an air lock. Bleed the air out by loosening the return hose from the core and carefully move the hose a little to allow the air to escape
