I liked the idea of the tensioner replacement, but I never did get any timing marks to help me with this project. I photo or diagram of the timing belt & gears would be very helpful. Thanks

I have a 1991 Honda Civic 4WD Wagon and my first problem is that I don't having enough power when I try to accelerate with the 1st gear. My 2nd problem is when I try to accelerate with 2nd gear, it choked the car and some times kills the engine at this time I have to give more gas then it will slowly go. I thing something wrong with the timing belt setup, but don't know where.

I set the Crank timing mark to 0 ( Top Dead Centre )

Before you remove the Belt.

Use White Paint Pen to mark the belts & sprockets.( Cam gear...Crank gear... Water pump gear)
1 tooth only per gear & belt.( You should have a mark on 1 tooth on the gear & belt).

MARK THE BELT (A =CAMGEAR W = WATER PUMP C = CRANK GEAR )

Loosen tensioner & remove the belt (try not to move/turn any of the sprockets/gears)

IMPORTANT !!!

Count the TEETH on BOTH BELTS. ( MAKE SURE THEY HAVE THE SAME AMOUNT OF TEETH)

Mark the new Belt.COUNT THE TEETH BETWEEN MARKS ( should have the same amount as the old belt). Mark A ... W ...C ...

DOUBLE CHECK THE NUMBER OF TEETH BETWEEN MARKS.

Reverse installation for assembly.

Ensure timing belt marks match up with the correct gear marks....A...W...C

97 Honda civic won't start. Has had timing belt and pulley replaced along with rotor button

Did the timing belt break? Are you 100% that it is "in time" correctly? Does it spin over effortlessly? If so,do a compression check, and make sure you dont have any bent/broken valves,or blown head gasket.

Does 1997 honda civic have freewheeling timing belt? If timing belt breaks what damage can be caused?

According to Gates belts, your engine is not freewheeling but interference. If belt breaks
damage is extensive so if it needs changing better do it. Honda usually offers a package
deal where they change the timing belt, water pump and all accessory belts.

How to remove water pump form honda civic 1994 ex

Hi:
The water pump is located underneath the timing belt cover, on the drivers side of the engine. To swap the water pump, you need to remove the timing belt cover, timing belt, and the timing belt tensioner. I usually tell people that this can be done in a day, but sometimes not ! Also, all of the other drive belts , such as Air conditioning and the alternator belt all need removed too.
