Rattle/clunk front end of a 2001 grand caravan

I have a rattle/clunk in the front end of my 01 grand caravan, when driving on rough roads. you can feel it on the floorboards with your feet. I replaced the front struts and had a wheel alignment done and the tire shop that did the alignment said everthing for the steering was good. Any info would be a great help.

Front stabilizer/sway bar bushings sound worn. I had same, on my 91'. Felt like someone was thumping the floor under my feet sometimes. I managed to get away with spinning the outer ones at control arms, but replaced ones in middle at frame.

forgot to mention, if your doing the repair yourself, measure diameter of bar before you go for parts, they have 2 different sizes. I didn't and it cost me 2 trips. 1-1/8" bar, or 1-1/16". yes it will make a difference.

Here is the Technical Service Bulletin that maybe of help, worth looking into but can't guarantee that it would fix your problem Steering - Steering Column Clunking When Turning TECHNICAL Bulletin No.: 01-02-32-001P Date: November 25, 2009 Subject: Clunk Felt/Noise Heard From Steering Column, Steering Gear and/or Front Of Vehicle During Turning Maneuver and/or Steering Wheel Rotation (Replace Intermediate Shaft As Directed) Models: 2001-2004 Buick Regal 2005-2008 Buick Allure (Canada Only), LaCrosse 2000-2008 Chevrolet Impala 2000-2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo 1998-2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue 2004-2007 Pontiac Grand Prix Supercede: This bulletin is being revised to add the 2008 Buick LaCrosse/Allure. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 01-02-32-001O (Section 02 - Steering). Condition Some customers may comment on a clunk type noise coming from the front of the vehicle while driving during a turning maneuver.

1. Locate a large area (parking lot) where the vehicle can be turned in a tight circle. 2. Turn the steering wheel to the right and/or left all the way to the steering lock, then off the steering lock a 1/4 turn. 3. Drive the vehicle approximately 5 km/h (3 mph) in a circle, preferably over rough pavement or seams on the road surface. 4. Drive the vehicle straight ahead at idle speed while applying and releasing the brake pedal. Listen/feel the steering wheel for the clunk/noise condition. 5. If a clunk is felt in the steering wheel, the MOST likely cause is the I-shaft - not the steering gear. Continue with the correction. Correction DO THIS - Replace the intermediate shaft DON'T DO THIS - DO NOT lube the intermediate shaft Replace the existing intermediate shaft

I have this clunking sound from the bottom front of my car when driving over a road that is not too smooth. On the freeway in good repair, no problems.

Have front struts checked, have a friend bounce vehicle up and down while you listen down beside the both front wheels. You might be able to find source of noise.

2001 Tarus clunking sound

very common problem is the sway bay end links that attach to the strut from the sway bar. They sound like a light chuckling knock over bumps. The bushings that hold the subframe up wear or the bolts loosed due to the bushings wearing. usually the rear ones The bushings are 2 piece ,upper and lower Tighten with 18mm socket

This sounds like the anti-rattle springs where left out of the brake calipers.

2005 thumping/rattle front end.

450-$60 per upper strut mount at autozone, and probably 1hr. to 1-1/2 hrs.per side to replace it. Depending on your labor rate in your area. Would recommend alignment after too. Usually if your going to do one, do the other too, because it won't be too far behind the first one to clunk, and then you end up paying for another alignment too. Here's a site that may help, if not exactly what your getting done, pick closest for rough estimate, just add, or subtract parts/labor your not, or are getting done. ( repairpal.com )
