Oil light comes on after the engine has been running for a while. Only comes on when I stop and the engine idles under 1000 rpm. There is no definite change in engine noise which leads me to believe the oil pressure sending unit is bad.
Per the Haynes manual for the 95-05 Dodge Stratus on the 2.0L & 2.4L DOHC 4 cyl engines, the oil pressure sending unit is located at the left end of the rear side of the block. On 2.4L SOHC 4 cyl engines, the sending unit is located at the left end of the rear side of the block. On 2.5L & 3.0L V6 engines, the sending unit is located on the oil filter housing, on the front side of the block. On 2.7L V6 engines, the sending unit is located at the left end of the rear side of the block. To access it, remove the heat shield.
It is normally by the oil filter itself it looks like a plug with a wire on it
I had the same exact problem with my '04 Dodge Stratus. It was the Oil pressure sending unit. Easy fix.
Oil pressure sending unit/switch is usually screwed into engine block and has a large, sometimes oddly shaped tool surface to fit a socket or wrench. most I have seen are approx. 7/8" hex, and already damp w/oil and are partially covered by rubber boot. Have seen this issue before, where the inside seal of unit fails and oil gets to electrical portion causing faulty readings. Temperature will vary this, as it seems hot oil conducts electricity better than cold... You can also buy a mechanical gauge to install in sending unit location & mount gauge inside car to monitor permanently.
Oil pressure issues may be to much main bearing clearance/ oil pump starting to go out can also cause this.

Most likely the oil pressure switch may be damaged. This is a simple procedure. Change and observe the results

I'm having the same problem on my 05. Was the pressure switch near the oil filter? I haven't had a chance to climb under and look yet, and having no luck online finding the location of it.
How can I go about changing the oil sending unit and where would it be located in my 1998 ford f-150
