The oil and oil filter was changed but did not have any effect. once the vehicle goes above 2000 rpm the ticking noise starts wit the check engine oil warning and the ticking noise is constant even when the engine is in idle. if you don't go above 2000 rpm there is no ticking and no warning, even if you drive above 100 kph. in morning when u start the engine the warning comes on for a few seconds but goes away. the mechanic who changed the oil said it may be a bad oil pump. any suggestions or help would be appreciated. the vehicle is a chevrolet lumina ls 2005 model with almost 200,000 miles run.
You will have to take an oil pressure reading and compare to specifications. It could be that the pick up screen is plugged. Do not drive the car as damage to engine will occur.

Sounds like a stuck valve lifter. I'd use some oil additive for unsticking lifters.

Ok if you have a check engine light on then you need to have a computerised diagnostic on the car..which will give you an error code...

I have a 94 YJ gave me the same issues and I did all you did and more.
Finely I was told that penzoil has a parfin base which lends it self to the cause. I don't know if it is true or not I'm just a shade tree mech. I switched over to full synthetic and WA-LA It took a couple of changes after a good cleaning but I've been TICK free for a over a year now. since I do my own change it helps hold the cost down. I was also told I needed lifters and a rebuild & all that jazz so I figured that if she was gona die I'd deal with that when it happens so far so good.

it may need a lifter or valve adjustment when cold they will tick or knock depending on how loose or worn out then when it warms up they swell with heast and noise stops. after adjusting or replacing it will stop making noise

I had what sounds like the exact same problem. It was an exhaust leak from the left (driver's) side exhaust manifold. This engine has a history of the manifold bolts breaking and causing the exhaust leak. The engine is also used on some Dodge vehicles. It sounds like a tick and I almost mistook it for a bad lifter. I took it to the local Jeep dealer who confirmed the exhaust leak. I replaced the left manifold completely and replaced bolts/gaskets on both sides (left/right) and it fixed the problem. Be careful, as the dealer tried to gouge me on the price. You are looking in the ball park of $600 parts/labor. I got parts for $120 and it took the better part of a work day to do the job.

the tapping/ticking noise is louder on higher rpms and is coming from the front top side of the engine... from the right side (if you are looking at the engine from the front)
sorry it is the left side... if you stand infront of the vehicle looking at the engine then the noise is from the front top left side.
after changing the lube oil & filter and the transmission oil and filter the sound has gone but the check oil comes on and off specially while braking or driving slow. it goes away when the speed is above 30 kp/h. and there is no tapping / ticking noise, i've not driven it with rpm greater than 2000. the idle rpm is just above 500 rpms.
Price will depend on labor rate in your area and will vary from shop to shop. To get to the pick up screen you will have to remove the oil pan. I strongly advise having the oil pressure check first.
