The four-digit code is unique to your radio; your neighbor's code will not work on your radio. So what to do if you've misplaced, or never received, the white card, like most people?
Dealers have your radio code in a database, and can look it up. Many will give you the code over the phone if you've lost your card. You can call any Volvo dealer: they all have the same computer system to look up your Volvo radio code.
Sometimes the code is written on the radio itself. But you have to pull the radio out (not hard) to see it.

This happened to me and my dealer wanted to charge me $25.00 for the code. I called an out of town dealer and they gave me the code for free. Then just follow the instructions in the owners manual for entering the code.

The following web site has a lot of good information on Volvo's.
www.matthewsvolvosite.com

Hope this helps, Mark

Putting in code

When you disconnect your battery and then reconnect it again, it disables the radio. This is an anti-theft protection for your car radio.
The enable your radio the activation code is in your vehicle owner's manual. If you do not have this code you need to go to your Holden service centre and get them to enter this code for you.

How to insert the code for the radio of my golf3 /1996

ENTERING SECURITY CODE

Most vehicles are equipped with Heidelberg V or VI radios that are equipped with a theft protection program. When the battery has been is disconnected or if the radio has been removed, the radio will lock-up electronically and cannot be operated until the security code is entered. On the Heidelberg V, if the proper code is not entered in six attempts, the radio will lock-up permanently and cannot be repaired. On the Heidelberg VI, two incorrect attempts will lock the radio for about 1 hour.
The Heidelberg V may have a code assigned at the factory or a personal code created by the owner. The Hiedelberg VI has a code assigned at the factory and entered by the dealer during pre-delivery inspection. New radios come with the code printed on a sticker but not entered into memory. All codes are 4 digits. To code the radio:
Heidelberg V

  1. Turn the radio ON . The radio should display the word SAF. DO NOT attempt to eject a cassette with the radio in this mode.
  2. Push the AM/FM and SCAN buttons at the same time and hold them until the display changes, then release them immediately. The number 1000 will appear for about 3 seconds, then the display will go blank. Release the buttons then.

NOTE If the buttons are held too long, the radio will interpret this as an attempt to enter an incorrect code.
  1. Use the first four station selector buttons to enter the code. The first digit of the code is always 1. Each time the other buttons are pushed, the number in that position will change.
  2. When the code appears correctly in the display, push the AM/FM and SCAN buttons at the same time. When the radio plays and displays a frequency, release the buttons.
  3. If the code was entered incorrectly three times, momentarily disconnect the battery and try again. If the code is entered incorrectly three more times, the radio cannot be coded and cannot be repaired.

2000 Mitsubishi Mirage--Changed battery, code displayed on car radio screen; played with entering numbers, pushed the audio button, now OFF is displayed. What to do?

If you entered the incorrect code several times you may have ruined your chances of getting radio to work. On vehicles with anti theft radio when the battery is disconnected or the vehicle looses power the radio licks and to enable it a code is needed. The dealer may be able to help you but they would need certain information. Sometimes the vin of the car or some times the radio has to be removed to get the serial number. But if the wrong code is entered after so many attempts the radio becomes completely disable. To the point where you will not be prompted to enter a code.

I had to purchase a new battery for the car. After installation, the COdE message for the radio would not allow me to play the radio. I attempted to put in the 5 digit code but was unsuccessful. What do...

After two tries, the radio assumes tampering, and stops receiving the unlocking code. Disconnect the battery for 10 minutes or so, and attempt again to introduce the code.

Radio display reads loc and does not work any ideas keyless entry would not stop horn so i pulled fuse put fuse back in and radio reads loc and will not play

You need to enter a radio code to reactivate your radio. When the fuse was pulled, it cut the 12 volt to the radio and the radio anti-theft came on. Try entering 0000 to unlock you radio, if your radio does not take any more entries. Disconnect the battery again for 1 min and reconnect and then you can reenter codes again, if the code is not 0000. You can go the dealer and they can reactivate your radio, but if they want a crazy amount. Log on to radio-code.com, there is a fee but it's like $24.00. good luck and keep use posted.

Radio won't play

You have had a loss of power to the radio (such as when the car battery is changed), or the radio has been replaced or disconnected from the car's wiring harness. This is a theft deterrent because the stolen radio is useless to someone without the activation code. This code can be obtained from a dealer or it is found on a small plastic card that is part of the original owner's materials. Number is usually 5 digits. When you turn on the radio and the readout says 'CODE ', enter the number by using the numbered station selection buttons (which are numbered 1-2-3-4-5-6). If the radio beeps when you are entering the number, start over. If it keeps beeping, you have the wrong code number (which might be the case if the radio has been replaced). Note: The 'CODE' button located on the small computer face to the right of the radio (with the date, mileage, temperature, etc) has NOTHING to do with the process or the radio 'CODE'.
