My air conditioner has just started to go out.

I cannot afford to get it fixed. Over $1500. I would like to know if the belt for the air conditioner compresser can be bypased. it also runs something else.

How to replace an air conditioner compressor and tensioner

The screeching noise is of course the belt traveling faster than the pulley it is around, in other words it's slipping. Hopefully you have a worn belt, it takes quite a bit to pull a compressor. Assuming that the compressor is in working properly and your belt is good, look at the tension pulley. I had a vehicle once that did the same thing and after a lot of "try this" didn't work I got a new tension idler pulley and it fixed it. The old one wasn't putting enough tension on the belt to hold it tight enough to pull everything. Since then I have ran into several that were so weak they wouldn't hold proper tension. Just something that is overlooked a lot of times because he belt seemed tight enough. Just one more thing to try, hope it's not anything with the compressor because as you know they like those compressors and want give them up cheap.

Air conditioner seized, is there a serpentine belt i can put on to bypass the air conditioner, cannnot afford to get the air fixed, need transportation asap.

Hello Bernie, If the compresser is locked up, but the electric clutch will still spin free, then simply disconnect power to it, just thought i would mention that in case that was problem.

The way the belt is routed, it is hard to get the proper tension on the belt by using a shorter belt. It's a trial an error ordeal of trying many different lengths of belts until you find the right one, if at all.

There is also a bypass pulley that you can purchase that will mount in place of the seized AC compressor on the 3.0 litre engine---It will bolt in to place with the orginal bolts and you can retain the use of the orginal belt. No cutting, drilling or other modifications required.

Good luck, & i hope this helps FixYa!

I need a serpentine belt diagram for a 00 s10 4.3 v6 engine to bypass the air conditioner compressor

The easiest way to do that would be to remove the compressor and install a "compressor by-pass pulley". These are manufactured by a couple different companies to help people that cannot afford to fix their A/C but need to get their vehicle back on the road. This fix allows you to use the original belt for your vehicle without having to re-rout anything. AutoZone carries one made specifically for your vehicle. It is part #34175. List Price: $34.99

Our truck is a 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500, shortbed. About 1 1/2 years ago, it started making a "fast chirping" noise under the hood. It doesn't matter if we are idling, driving slow / fast, or braking,...

Start by isolating the issue. Remove the belt and start the engine. If it is still there, it is likely resonating through the engine from the flywheel/flexplate. If it dies, spin the alternator. This was a problem in some of there cars. Let me know what you find.

A/c only runs through the defrost vents.

CHECK ALL THE VACCUM LINES ON THE FIREWALL FOR CRACKS OR OPENS SEE IF THAT HELPS

Air conditioner belt is about to break, DOES THE VEHICLE HAVE AN AIR CONDITIONER CLUTCH THAT MAY BE FROZEN

If your clutch was frozen the belt would be making a loud squalling noise, the belt would burn up shortly. Start your engine, turn on air conditioning, then open the hood, and do an eyeball inspection of the belt, see if it is moving around the pulleys. If it is you only have a worn belt.
