2000 catera thermostat - 2001 Cadillac Catera

there are two temp sendens or sensors on this car . one operates the gauge the other reports only to the computer. one is in the thermostat housing the other is in the manifold

replace your thermostat ,check the hoses ,radiator cap and if problem persist then is your water pump ,it will be a big problem if you don't take care of this first.cause running a vehicle hot can blow your head gasket and is gonna be a whole new ball game good luck

It should be were to top rad.hose connects to engine block.

Hi, the main cause of over heating is usually down to a bad thermostat what you can do to test this is remove the thermostat and then boil some water and pour into a tub then put the thermostat into the tub leave it in their for about a minute then take it out and see if the middle has opened up to allow water to pass through if it dont open then this will need replacing.

other possible causes could be:

faulty coolant bottle cap.
water leak allowing air into the system.
water pump leaking or no longer spinning.
worse case could be that the head gasket has failed and if this is the case then you need to check water pump and thermostat as these failing can cause the head gasket to fail.

Is it Oil,or Automatic transmission fluid?
I've changed several Catera Radiator's because the transmission cooler cracked inside of them!!
Better check the transmission fluid for engine coolant too,Coolant in the Automatic Transmission will kill it purdy Quick!

I had the same problem with my 2000 Catera and after buying a fuel pump and it still wouldn't start, we found out it needed a $3 fuse!!!
