This is normal to some extent to try and warm up the tranny to opp temperature as soon as possible. make sure the vehicle had the latest software installed in the transmission as this could also cause a delayed shift when cold.

SOURCE: BMW E38 735i no reverse gear..????

Before you make any other moves, I would try having the transmission flushed and refilled and filters changed and if that doesn't work, you may have burned out the modulator so you may have to shop around for another transmission or have that one rebuilt, whichever would be feasibly financial for you.

How to reest trans fail safe mode 2005 bmw x5 3.0 litre diesel

Have to have the transmission problem diagnosed

Best not to use it or you may ruin the trans in as little
a ten miles & may have already, using it in failsafe

Fail Safe is there to protect the trans, but only if you stop
using it almost when the light comes on.

It will cut injector pulse, ignition spark & such, to let you
know your have a problem & lock the trans in a specific
gear,BUT folks still continue to cycle the ignition key &
drive on, to the tune of $5.000 leaving their bank account

Misfires when cold

Just means it isn't warmed up yet when sputters and misfires. Most likely a bad connection on the temperature sending unit in the engine or that sending unit is faulty. This sending unit tells the computer when engine is warm or cold and has to be functional. When working properly, it tells the computer to put engine in cold start mode, which it is not doing. The sensor is stuck in open position or warm mode and not giving the engine enough fuel when cold making it misfire and sputter. Fix that and you'll have no other problems with revving either.

You've a faulty EGR(Exhaust Gas Recirculation)valve problem. It has to do with emission control and you will not get enough power to achieve speed for trans shift higher when the EGR is bad. Replace the EGR and all will be well.

Hi:) This sound like the valve body in the transmission has a warren valve that is allowing fluid by the valve when it get hot. See when fluid is cold it is thick and can be held back with a 0.006" gap but when it get hot the fluid will pass by the valve. It can be repaired if got to in time.

Transmission slow to go into first gear unless auto is warmed up

change fluid & filter. no dipstick, sealed tranny. can remove both pans from underneath to access filter.

It is a GM 4L30E trans. used on Isuzu Rodeo and Cadillac Catera. BMW, in their inifinite wisdom, markets it as lifetime fluid. The second biggest bunch of **** advertising that ever was. Heat and friction will wear out ANY fluid!

BTW, it will delay shifting into highest gear when cold. this is normal
