My 2002 Nissan Maxima starts jerking when you push the accelerator. I have had the mass flow switch replaced but that did not fix the issue. What else could be causing this?

The car starts jerking when you initially push the accelerator. You can push the accelerator to the floor and the car won't go over 30mph and it just jerks. If you back off the accelerator and barely press it, you can get the car to accelerate slowly but it will go no faster than 60 mph. I had the mass flow switch replaced but it did not fix the problem. What else could this be?

SOURCE: Car stutters at startup

My car did the same thing and I went and had it checked out. They had to replace my mass air flow censor. Cost me a little over $200. The only thing is after I had it fixed, my check engine light kept coming on. They said that my fuel line was running rich because I had ran my car so long with that problem. May want to get that checked out!

I just had the same problem with my '02 altima SE.
Took it to Buckeye Nissan in Hilliard OH. and they had to replace the two crank sensors which.
The sensors themselves were about $44.00 a piece, but w/labor about $300.00 was the total. Hope this helps.....Now if I can just get the heater working!

1995 Maxima stalls, what could be the problem. Vehicle hesitates and jerks upon acceleration then stalls at stop lights.

check ur MAF sensor (Mass Air Flow) make sure there is no condensation rust on it, just a little bit will cause it to malfunction...soft brush on the sensor itself to clean it up..try that, worked for me.

Sounds like your Mass air flow meter is bad. Seems like they changed your knock sensor when they should've warmed the car up to figure out it is the MAF sensor that's bad. It's a common problem on that generation Maxima.

I had that problem with my 02 Maxima and it was my mass airflow sensor. Not a cheap fix, about $550.00 from dealer or about $350.00 from auto parts store if they have one remanufactured.

What causes a car not accelerate properly

I know common issues for the the 2000 Maximawas the Mass Air Flow sensor and the coils. I think both of them triggered a Service Engine Soon light.

My 2002 Maxima has had no issues yet (only 70k miles, unlike the 180k on the 2000).
