2004 BMW X3, 3.0, 64K; Electrical problems

Purchased from a hometown dealership in Long Beach, CA, we now live in AL. 7 days now: low-beam, high-beam headlights & rear lights flicker on and off, sometimes staying off. The dashboard lights and all other LED signals stay operational without problems. A local BMW dealership who performed a diagnostic test, fiddled with the battery cables; then said it was fixed... Unfortunately it is not. Any ideas? Thanks

Wow: isn't the X3 fuse box located inside the glove compartment? And the battery is in the back... Need better info?

Locate the relays that control those things on the engine compartment fuse box located near the battery... replace them

Robert

if you know where the fuse box is located you are half way there... i missed that it was a bmw as you posted this question in the kia section... where ever the battery is located you will find a fuse panel.

I have a 2004 bmw 325i the low beams work but I can't get the high beams to turn on. Brought it to a local mechanic and said it would need to be re-programed at the dealer. Sounds fishy to me. What do you...

Unfortunately these BMWs are prone to all manner of electrical problems.

Usually, the low beams and high beams are wired through separate relays (refer to your owners manual for fuse and relay info). It could be that there is a fault in the high beam relay (assuming that the globes in your headlights have been checked and are all OK).
I would recommend you get the car to a reputable auto electrician to check it for you.
Before doing that I would also talk to the nearest BMW dealership service department (a competent service rep) and tell him the problem. You can bet that there have been plenty of owners coming in with the same problem and if they are any good they should be able to tell you immediately what the likley issue is and what the fix is. If you get nothing call another dealer service dept rep.

I have a 2004 BMW 545i. The Transmission Light came on 2 days ago but it has not been on since. I thought Transmission Fluid might be low. If it is I woulds like to knoow what type I should use. Once I...

I had the transmission fluid checked. It was ok- Apparently a malfunction in the electrical system. The battery has been recharged and I drove it yesterday. It seems to be ok. I plan to replace the battery soon, since it has not been replaced since I purchased the car in 2004. I drive it so infrquently I think the battery simply died. It has been driven approximately 25 miles since December 2008. I plan to drive it on the highway this summer.
