Clutch peddle goes to floor and stays.On 2004 Chevy Cavalier.What can I do to start trouble shooting?

you need at least 5 quarts of 5w30, a oil filter purlator pure 1 pl14536 or similar, a 1 1/4" short socket for filter and a 5/8 socket for the plug... (i use 32 mm and 15mm respectively) note the socket for the filter needs to be very short with an extension, or do what i did and buy a wrench and cut it off to fit. start by loosening the drain plug, then the filter cap to help the oil drain faster. then open the filler cap. once the oil is barely dripping put the new filter in the plastic filter cap and lube up the new o rings on the plastic and filter with some of the 5w30. then install it and reinstall the drain plug. once that is done place minimum 5 quarts of oil in the engine and run the car for 5 min or so. then check the level and add oil as necessary. *mine takes about 5.5 quarts to max line.

You are going to have to replace the master and slave cylinders for the hydraulic clutch, the seals have failed in the slave, but from past experience they should always been replaced as a pair.

had it happen to my car too. went to advanced autoparts and got a new master cylinder for the clutch ( not brake) and installed it as well as a new clutch kit since i was in there. as a short term, i bleed my clutch to get it home and that provided about 2 or 3 shifts before it lost pressure again. if you can't rev match or are uncomfortable with it have it towed to someplace to do the work or ur house and you can do it

This appears to be a common problem with 2004 Cavaliers. My 2004 Cavalier just reached 221,000 miles, yes, on one clutch. It finally went out. Here are your best solutions in order: 1-bleed hydraulic line, 2-if there is a leak from inside the transaxle the problem is most likely your clutch release cylinder, it's the fitting at the end of your hydraulic line that plugs into the transaxle from the outside, it's a dealer only item, part# 89060003, the part item is actually called the hydraulic line but it comes with the release cylinder, can't buy the release cylinder by itself, approx. $105.00, 3-if that doesn't fix it, the next step I recommend is replacing the master cylinder simply cause it's cheaper (approx. $75) and easier to replace, 4-if none of those fix it then it's your slave cylinder, I recommend this solution last cause it's the most expensive and time consuming, the transmission must be removed from the vehicle, not for novice do-it-yourselfers, also, if this step is required then I suggest you replace the clutch and pressure plate as they will be exposed also since you're going to have the transmission out anyway
