If this noise gets louder with speed, you could have bad rear diff. side bearings. Jeep did have a problem with the bearings in the rears when they started making them in a different plant.

Easy way to check nois in front diff on a 1999 BlazerZr2. Have front drive shaft off.


Turn a tight right hand circle and listen for noise then turn a tight left hand circle and listen for noise. This checks the CV joints in the axles. Ujoints are cheap you might as well replace them while the shaft is off.

check oil level ---yes it can but tapping noise can be a lot more reasons --worn oil -low oil pressure--low oil level--rocker loose-worn or damaged lifter-worn damaged valves --timing chain --water pump--pulley --really anything can cause a tapping noise --try to isolate the area or sound and diagnose problem

I have a vr commodore everytime I go over a bump or annything the diff makes a knock nois and feels like it's gna fall out anny idear?


Unfortunately there are several things it could be. Check the tie rods, ball joints, calipers and shocks. All of these can cause a loud noise over bumps.

Humming noise


My 03' avalanche was making the same huming sound. After checking everything that could possibly be making this noise from tires to wheel bearings to brake shoes draging and four different pro garages giving me four different answers, I finally checked the rear differntial only to discover fluid slowly seaping out of it. I'm told more than once' that this is an ongoing problem with some rear ends on these model trucks but chevy or GM will not take any responsabilty or acknolage any problems exist. This little non responsible action finally ended up costing me over $2300.00 out of pocket... SO' have the rear axle bearings checked and serviced asap before this happens to you...

Ticking noise from engine


if you've got a few $$ to risk ,try some synthetic oil with new filter ...it often work good for these kind of noise as long as it is not a loud knoking nois ...if it is only a fast clic clic nois it will probably work!

2002 gmc sierra denali rear axle noies


I have a 2002 Sierra Denali, and when it was only two years old, I began having the same issue that it sounds like you guys are describing. Luckily, I had opted for the extended warranty, because it turns out that the lube "specialists" at Wally-World had topped off my rear differential with standard rear-end oil. I turns out that the Denali's differential has a special "clutch pack", as they called it, that requires a secial, senthetic (aka: very expensive) lubricant. The **** WalMart added contaminated the diffy's oil, and caused the clutch pack to fail.... basically it started locking the rear axles, and not allowing one side to rotate at a different speed than the other, as is required in turning.
Well, it took the dealer nearly a month to acquire the neccesary parts for the repair, and as for the cost? Only a minimal deductible, and the dealer assured me that the $1800 extended warranty had paid for itself.... nearly twice!!!
WORDS OF ADVICE: If you own a Denali with AWS, Always instruct the lube guys not to touch your rear differntial! And have your certified GM mechanic check it at recommended intervals.
