I over tightened the oil plug on my oil pan and now it's leaking. It's nto completely stripped because the plug still comes out. I need a way to stop the leak though.
I wonder if the sealing washer that is on this plug has been lost. These washers are usually aluminium or have a rubber insert, and without it there you are trying for a steel on steel seal.
A stripped thread can often still be backed out, that's no guarantee. Try for a tightening torque of about 15-20 ft-lb and if you get to that it isn't stripped.
Don't worry if it IS stripped, you can buy anoversize self-tapping plug.
The bolt or component on the oil pan may be stripped, make sure you've got the correct size socket as to not strip the hex head.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Multi-cardiag M8 CDP

Before adding any more oil, make sure that you have securly replaced and tightened the oil drain plug (which is located on your engine's oil pan, under your car).
Check transmission pan & lines 4 leak. Tighten all pan bolts, line connectors & drain plug. U may need a new transmission pan gasket. Any cracks in transmission?
Remove or disconnect the following:
Engine undercover
Front exhaust pipe
Lower oil pan bolts and lower pan
Cover
Upper oil pan bolt and upper pan
Baffle plate

To install:
Clean all gasket surfaces of the cylinder block and the upper and
lower oil pan.
Install or connect the following:
Baffle plate
Apply a 0.16 in. (4mm) bead of sealant to the gasket surfaces of
the upper oil pan. Upper oil pan onto the cylinder block within 15 minutes after
applying sealant. Tighten the bolts as shown in the accompanying figure.

Apply 0.16 in. (4mm) bead of sealant to the gasket surfaces of the
lower oil pan. Lower oil pan and tighten the bolts, in the sequence shown, to
88-106 inch lbs. (10-12 Nm)

Oil drain plug with a new gasket and tighten to 29 ft. lbs. (40
Nm)

Lower the vehicle and fill the crankcase to the proper level with
clean engine oil.
Connect the negative battery cable. Start the engine and check for
leaks.
Non-Turbo Engine
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Raise and safely support the vehicle.
Drain the engine oil into a suitable container.
Once the oil has completely drained, install the plug and tighten
to 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm).
Remove the front exhaust pipe.
Remove the engine oil dipstick and tube assembly.
Remove the front plate.
Unfasten the oil pan mounting bolts, then remove the oil pan and
gasket.

non-turbo engine
To install:
Apply sealant at the point where the engine block meets the oil
pump.
Use a new gasket and install the oil pan. Tighten the mounting
bolts to 8.9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm).
Install the front plate.
Install the front exhaust pipe.
Install the dipstick and tube assembly.
Safely lower the vehicle to the floor.
Refill the crankcase with oil to the proper level.
nnect the negative battery cable.
Start the engine and check for leaks.
Turbo Engine
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Safely raise and support the vehicle.
Remove the front exhaust pipe.
Remove the exhaust pipe and muffler assembly.
Drain the engine oil into a suitable container. Once the oil has
drained completely, tighten the plug to 29 ft. lbs. (39 Nm).
Remove the dipstick and tube.
For AWD vehicles, remove the transfer case assembly as follows:
With the propeller shaft still installed, remove the transfer
mounting bolt.
Insert a suitable prytool in between the transfer case and
transaxle, then remove the transfer case from the center shaft.
Remove the transfer case from the center shaft. Do NOT tilt the
transfer assembly to the rear or oil will leak out.
After removing the transfer assembly, insert tool MB991193 or
equivalent, to prevent the oil from leaking out. Use a piece of wire to
suspend the transfer case from the body.

Remove the bell housing cover.
Disconnect the oil return pipe from the oil pan.
Remove the oil pan mounting bolts. Tap the oil pan seal breaker
MB998727 or equivalent between the oil pan and the engine block to break
the seal and remove the oil pan.

2.0L Turbo engine
To install:
Clean the sealing surface on the oil pan and engine block. Apply a
continuous bead of sealant MD970389 or equivalent to the oil pan.
Clean the oil pan mounting bolt holes in the oil seal case.
Install the oil pan to the engine block. Tighten the mounting
bolts to 5.1 ft. lbs. (6.9 Nm).
Use a new gasket and connect the oil return pipe to the oil pan.
Install the bell housing cover.
If equipped with AWD, install the transfer case assembly.
Install the dipstick and tube assembly.
Install the front exhaust pipe.
Install the exhaust pipe and muffler.
Install a new oil filter.
Safely lower the vehicle to the floor and add five quarts of oil
to the crankcase.
You either have a valve cover gasket leaking, or maybe a oil pan/plug gasket leaking on the exhaust..Take it to a shop, maybe clean the engine and see if it can be found..Hope this helped and good luck!!
at 141K there are many gaskets or seals that could be leaking.crankshaft seal,[behind main pulley],oil pan gasket or drain plug,timing cover gasket and so on.keep the oil changed regularly & full,get back to me @ 241K !
problem could be heads bolts . i put new bolts in put a little sealer on them . make sure your bolt holes is clean free from debris. put a lillte sealer on intake gasket on top and bottom where coolants travel. if all was done . drain engine oil in clean container .set it aside. take radiator cap off .you a coolant pressure rise kit .put a pan under oil pan with drain plug still off .pressure your radiator about 10 psi. make sure you have antifreeze in radiator and engine . when you pressure up to 10 psi look under the car if coolant comes out oil pan. you got leaking head gasket. if not .put oil pan plug back on . put oil back in car . check your freeze plugs also.
