I have a 1993 volvo 850 series glt. Won't start has new plugs wires rotor cap coil and crank sensor. If I turn key to start I don't get fire while i'm cranking. Was thinking the camshaft position sensor might be causing this problem. Does this make sense or could you give me any info. what could cause this.
Hello, Have you made sure the rotor is turning in the distributor, as this sound like a cambelt failure. Sorry to bear bad tidings if this is so. Paul 'W' Onyer~EDson(:0) {#><U.K. Please remember to politely rate my effort!

you said you repl dist cap that means you don't have a crank sensor you have electronic ing module. remove your elec ing module have it tested most auto parts stores could test your module, or check your coil at the neg terminal. should have power. if not you lost your primary volt from your batt.your secondary power is coming from your electronic ing module from the module to the pos terminal on the coil, when the eng cranks, from the coil to the dist cap , from the dist cap center to the rotor then out to the plugs, this all happen pervided the timing belt or timing chain is ok. the cumbustion chainber needs 3 things , thats fuel, air, and spark.
replace switch on steering column not the key switch there a switch on the steering column when you turn key a rod run from key switch down to this switch
check inside distributor cap for cracks also rotor arm condition also check crank angle sensor on top of bellhousing also cam sensor mounted near distibutor
The ignition coil is on the drivers side fender well just aft of the air box. You'll see the wire coming from it to the distributor cap. It's held in place by 2 10MM bolts.
I'd be taking the dash apart looking for burnt wires in a harness, so you will likely have to take the outer cover off some of the bundles. Start tracing back from the plug in for the radio. Hope this helps.
it is the fuel pump for sure. If you can hit the tank and get it to run it is the pump. this drain back (hard start after sitting) is a fuel pump issue as well
the factory plug wires last about 200,000 miles/if the cars runs ok other than stalling at idle and has no check engine light on the the next step is on the drivers front of engine remove the air intake hose and clean the throttle body with carb spray cleaner and remove the idle control valve mounted to the front side of it and also flush it out
